Hon. Shyam Jay Tanna, Member of Parliament for Tororo Municipality, today joined residents in actively participating in the National Cleaning Day, demonstrating that effective leadership goes beyond *speeches and parliamentary debates to practical service within the community.
During the exercise, Hon. Tanna personally took part in collecting garbage and cleaning public spaces, working alongside residents and other community leaders. His hands-on participation sent a strong message that maintaining a clean and healthy municipality is a shared responsibility that requires the involvement of everyone.
Hon. Tanna had earlier joined the Mayor and other leaders to launch the National Cleaning Day initiative in Tororo. Under the national programme, the last Saturday of every month, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., is dedicated to community cleaning activities aimed at improving sanitation, hygiene and waste management.
For the Tororo Municipality MP, the exercise was not simply about removing rubbish from the streets; it was about mobilising citizens to take ownership of their environment and building a culture where communities collectively protect their surroundings.
His participation also reflects the service-oriented leadership he pledged upon assuming office, when he promised to serve the people of Tororo Municipality with humility, dedication and commitment.
By picking up garbage alongside ordinary residents, Hon. Tanna showed that leadership is not defined by titles or positions, but by the willingness to get involved, work with the people and lead by example.
The exercise further reinforced the message that a clean Tororo cannot be achieved by municipal authorities alone. Residents, businesses, leaders and institutions all have a role to play in keeping the municipality clean, safe and healthy.
For Hon. Shyam Tanna, the message is clear: a better Tororo begins with collective responsibility, and leadership must be willing to pick up the broom and lead from the front.
