Government has rolled out the distribution of fertilisers to farmers across the country targeting small holder farmers.
The intervention is as a result of loss in soil fertility which has led to poor yields.
The intervention is also in response to This follows a directive by the President to set up a fertiliser factory.
The use of the fertilisers will improve on the fertility of the soil and increase out puts.
The 350 million fertilisers will be distributed to farmers in districts across the country
The intervention by Government is meant to improve soil fertility and foster the government bid to transform farmers from subsistence to commercial agriculture.
They will be distributed to farmers through the Chief Administrative Officers at district level.
Farmers are supposed to use one or one and a half kg of fertiliser per hectare per year.
It will be given to farmers at zero cost
Speaking at the launch of the distribution exercise at MAAIF offices in Entebbe, the Minister of Agriculture Animal industry and Fisheries Frank Tumwebaze says the initial faze will first target coffee and tea farmers as the intervention is rolled in different parts of the country.
