Frank Tumwebaze opens Africa Internet Summit 2019

The Minister of ICT and National Guidance Hon Frank Tumwebaze has today opened the Africa Internet Summit (AIS19) in Kampala.

The minister spoke about Internet affordability, safety and need for IT multinationals.

The Internet innovation and technology should be seen as an equalizer and unifier.

“I have this afternoon  addressed & opened the #AIS19 summit  in Kampala with delegates from 47 countries. I spoke about internet affordability, safety & need for IT multinationals to work with governments to help mentor local innovations so as to make the internet a benefit for all,” Frank said.

The minister added that internet is now a tool for all because it has become so common to an individual.

“Telecoms focused so much on voice calls later did they know that data would take over. Today’s struggle is how do we make internet free and affordable for everyone,” he added.

AIS’19 provides a platform where African governments and global stakeholders meet to discuss and benchmark issues on Internet policy, Internet governance, ICT4D, Internet access, and technical capacity building.
