Last evening, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa joined the people of Ntungamo at Kyamate playground for ‘Ekijumeero’ to mark 20 years of Radio Ankole. He said running a radio station is hardly a profitable venture, but it remains one of the most powerful tools for communication.

He congratulate the founders of Radio Ankole, who include Mr. Bob Kabonero and Hon. Mwesigwa Rukutana for launching this station and staying true to their mission, even in tough times. They did not pursue this venture for financial gain, but rather out of a passion to inform, educate, and entertain.

In its 20 years of existence, the station has become a vital channel for exchanging ideas and bringing government programmes closer to the people of Ankole—all in Runyankore. This has ensured that even those who do not understand English are kept informed and engaged. The radio station has served as a voice for unity, bringing Ugandans together rather than dividing them.

He encouraged the team to leverage technology to expand their reach to Ugandans living abroad while remaining committed to broadcasting in Runyankore. “This is not only a way to preserve our language but also a means of safeguarding our culture for future generations,” he added.
