Comment: Rwakakamba Morrison weighs in on the issue of NRM Primaries & the challenge faced
Political analysis and commentator Mr. Rwakakamba Morrison has expressed his clear view about NRM Primaries and how it should be in the near future.
His comment comes after Hon. Akifeza Grace Ngabirano (an Independent candidate) was declared winner in Kisoro District by-elections last evening, joining many independents in Parliament who went through the same ways.
Sharing his view on social media, Rwakakamba says the challenge NRM faces is at a tactical level like the management of primary elections, identification and encouragement of agile candidates.
He says there is also need for reform of party primary election management processes including post primary dispute management.
He says at a law reform level, Independents should perhaps be conditioned to go independent from the word go and not participate in Party primaries (this will need a closer look at fundamental human rights of independents).
Rwakakamba had this to say; “The UPC used to appoint candidates. It weakened it politically and eventually got swept by the NRA/NRM revolution. The principle of primary elections is superior. I think the challenge NRM faces is at tactical level i.e management of primary elections, identification and encouragement of agile candidates, perhaps reform of party primary election management processes including post primary dispute management. At a law reform level, Independents should perhaps be conditioned to go independent from word go and not participate in Party primaries (this will need a closer look at fundamental human rights of independents etc). You have introduced a good topic for introspection, reflection and debate”.
Hon. Akifeza Grace Ngabirano (Independent ) had a landslide Victory of 50,469 Votes in Kisoro District Woman MP By-elections that took place on 14.11.2024 defeating Hon. Kabagyeni Rose of the ruling Party NRM who got 44,982 Votes.
