Bukwo, Eastern Uganda hosts Airtel Health Camp
Bukwo, Eastern Uganda: Last weekend, residents of Bukwo and surrounding districts received free health services at a free Airtel Uganda community health fair held at NGO Health Center IV in Kamukamba town, next to Bukwo main referral hospital.
In partnership with the Hind’s Feet Project, a Non-Profit Organization that focuses on making health information accessible to all, the telecommunications company offered free medical services to hundreds of community members in an effort to improve their wellbeing and empower them with the basic health information and services they need to make appropriate health decisions.
The medical services offered included; Screenings for Hepatitis B and Diabetes, testing for HIV/AIDS, malaria, screening for prostate, breast and cervical cancer, blood donation, dental care, eye care amongst others. There was also a pediatric clinic, nutritional clinic, a pharmacy, a section for pregnant mothers, teaching young school girls on how to make re-useable sanitary pads, health literacy communication and primary health care.
Leading up to the health camp, the telco held a Safe Motherhood Program at Kapsolkwo health center III in Kapyoyon village where they focused on pregnant mothers, new mothers and children below 5 years. Activities held as part of the safe motherhood program included free scans, pantographs, re-fresher training for mid wives as well as health literacy for mothers focusing on their unborn babies and the experience of keeping the child alive in the first five years. Airtel also donated mama kits to the attendees.
Speaking during the health fare, Airtel Uganda Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Mrs. Charity Bukenya said, “At Airtel, we aim to improve the lives of Ugandans, not only by providing them with affordable and reliable telecommunications solutions, but also by increasing knowledge on general health and the use of preventive health services to help them live healthy lives.”
“Working closely with our partners, we will continue to reach out to other communities in Uganda,” she added.
The guest of Honor and Woman Member of Parliament for Bukwo Ms. Everlyn Chemutai applauded Airtel for always prioritizing the subscribers in different regions across Uganda. She encouraged the residents of Bukwo to continue seeking necessary health information to improve their lives and those of their families and communities.
