Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon proprietor and Great Lakes Safaris CEO Amos Wekesa has named Sports Minister, Hon. Peter Ogwang, as the person of the week  in regard to Rwenzori Marathon 2026. The marathon is due on Saturday 22nd August in Kasese.

The come after the Minister presented a paper on the floor of Parliament about the Rwenzori Marathon which is now World Label Road Race.

The minster realized that people don’t know the magnitude of what Rwenzori Marathon can become, the reason he brought it on the floor of Parliament.

He engaged many other ministers and extensively discussed Rwenzori Marathon as an international event and what support it needs.

Beyond money, Rwenzori marathon needs many things,

1 – Security, when New York Marathon is happening, national guard is involved because many countries are involved

2- Medical facilities, Kasese, Fortportal and Mbarara need enhanced medical facilities for runners because world athletics is strict with this.

3- Ministry of Works for road clearances and making sure the world certified route is in top conditions.

4- Ministry of Trade and Investments, the people who come for Rwenzori Marathon, many are very high profile, won’t mention some who came last year.

5 – Ministry of Internal Affairs for quicker clearances

6- Agriculture, food is one of the biggest beneficiaries during this international marathon called Rwenzori Marathon.

7- Quality of accommodations in Kasese, Fortportal, Mbarara must go up since we shall be able to fill accommodations even in Mbarara next year God willing if no silly EBOLA stories.

Amos Wekesa is taking tourism to another level through Rwenzori Marathon

Hon. Peter Ogwang said the Cabinet will discuss Rwenzori Marathon this coming Monday.

“THERE IS A REASON THERE ARE ONLY 7 world athletics label race marathons in whole of Africa. Our target is for Uganda to have ELITE LABEL and we have done everything humanly speaking to prepare for this,” Amos Wekesa said.
