Born and raised in Eldoret town, Agolla is a Kenyan singer/songwriter who made her career debut in 2017 with a song titled “Milele”. Though still a newcomer, she has already earned admiration and support from the likes of rapper Wangechi and media personality Mzazi Willy M. Tuva, with the former picking her as a favourite in the #50GuitarsKe video challenge, a collaborative program by the latter and Cort Guitars. Receiving a brand new guitar in the process, Agolla continued her childhood passion: writing and performing songs in whichever platform she was invited to. From Safaricom’s Blaze BYOB summit, to Sofar Sounds Nairobi, Café Ngoma’s Supersoul Liveand Social 5 showcases, to even performing live on Citizen TV’s 10 Over 10 music show, this artist, surely, has the talent to match her creative ambition. In fact, although still independent, Agolla already has her sight fixed towards a debut album, a project whose songs she’s started writing and recording. Her debut single Milele was recently featured in a Kenyan film titled Plan B.
Catherine Joy Agolla (that’s her birth name) attended Lockwood Girls High School in Nakuru and followed it up with an undergraduate degree in Natural Resource Management at the Africa Nazarene University in Nairobi. Gaining an eclectic mix of cultural influences, and considering that she started singing from a very young age, Agolla is able to easily transcend genre boundaries. Be Afropop, R&B, Soul or Afrohouse, she is proving that her music can attract an even wider appeal. Plus, she is also a part-time model, and this has helped her maintain an audience-ready image, as evidenced by her Brand Ambassador role for Safaricom’s Blaze and also, her inclusion into the #Empawa100program by Ghanaian musician Mr. Eazi and Empawa Africa
