Mityana District Speaker Hon. Nalweyiso Tusuubira Catherine has gained more ground and many see her as a surprise package to defeat her rivals including incumbent Hon. Joyce Baagala.
Recently a one Mukooza Tadewo organized opinion polls which saw Hon. Nalweyiso Catherine Tusuubira taking the lead but only to be controversially overturned in favour of Hon. Mukisa Proscovia Nabbosa, the NUP flag bearer. Interestingly the organizer doubles as the PA to Mukisa Proscovia Nabbosa.
In the polls, Hon. Nalweyiso Catherine Tusuubira (Independent) scored 113 votes, Judith Nabakooba (NRM) 16 votes, Baagala Joyce (Independent ) 37 votes while Mukisa Proscovia Nabbosa (NUP) scored 146 votes. 309 people took part in this exercise.
Another factor is that Hon. Nalweyiso being the district speaker, has the greatest support and potential to bring the win home.
Hon. Nalweyiso Tusuubira Catherine who was overlooked by the National Unity Platform (NUP) party for the flag bearer position, says she has so far solved water problem in Mityana after securing more than 30 boreholes in the district and still bringing more and after which she wants to work on improving health facilities.
“I and my donors, we shall construct more health centers/ hospitals,” she said.
The livelihood of the peasants shall be improved through different partnerships lobbied with women, elderly and children as her priority.
“I would also fight on the floor of Parliament to see that local governments achieve actual decentralisation since this has been a great barrier to proper service delivery and decision-making in local government councils,” she said.
She said her leadership will be effective, accountable and delivering service to the people of Mityana District.
Her five years as the speaker has given the opportunity to travel across the district and she now knows what is needed on the ground.
