2026 Updates: Tycoons scout support for NRM’s Presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni
Barely a month to the Jan 15th 2026 Elections, all political parties are busy looking for votes from all corners promising voters a new Uganda and telling them what they would like to hear. The ruling party (NRM) is no exceptional.
Business tycoons who direct the economy of Uganda have not been left behind, because they have to protect their gains as per NRM party’s 2026 slogan.
Among those that have openly invested heavily and campaigned for the ruling party and president Museveni are;
HASSAN BASAJJABALABA who contested and won as member of Central Executive Committee (CEC representing Entrepreneurship) CEC is a topmost decision-making body of NRM party. Hajji Basajjabalaba has committed resources and time to campaign or NRM party and president Yoweri Museveni to remain in power for the next five years. He has camped in western Uganda Bushenyi-Ishaka in particular to woo the business community support this cause saying he will not sleep until elections are over.
President Museveni has on several occasions come to Basajjabalaba’s rescue inspite of resistance from a section of some of Ugandans especially the opposition political actors.
DR. GOODRA TUMUSIIME; Goodra Behakanira popularly known as Maama Avemar is no stranger to National Resistance Movement party and president Museveni and first lady Janet Museveni. A successful business lady who owns business across the country has of recent been unable to concentrate on her business but look for votes for president Museveni and all NRM flag bearers in greater Kawempe. “I want president Museveni to win in Kawempe north and south and Faridah Nambi Kigongo and Madina Nsereko to win parliamentary seats in Kawempe North and South respectively. Investigations reveal that Kawempe North an opposition strong hold has of recent turned yellow because of her door to door and house to house campaign strategy. Maama Avemar is now a household name in Kawempe. “true she mobilized the youth, orphans, ghetto youths, widows and jobless to support NRM party and president Museveni for he has a big plan for them after elections” hajji Twaha of Tula Kawempe said. Goodra Behakanira has committed her resources and time to see to it that Kawempe is liberated from opposition. Kudos to Maama Avemar of Avemar Group. Goodra Behakanira is the first woman to build and own a shopping mall called Avemar. She was also the first to start importation of container goods from China, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Hongkong. She has not been selfish at mentoring so many women in Uganda on how to succeed in business and become billionaires like her. Sometime back a University in the United States of America (USA) bestowed her an honorary Doctorate due to her hard work. She currently owns a string of business in Uganda and abroad among them is GBK Storeyed building on Luwum street, the multi billionaire Voice mall in Bwebajja on Kampala-Entebbe Road and properties in London Great Britain. “I’m not shy to talk about NRM Party and President Museveni because under his Government is when I became a successful business lady” She said. The Voice Mall near Bwebajja houses several offices, business centers, accommodation, Hotels, Name them.“I advocate for NRM continuity” She said.
HAMIS KIGGUNDU: Hamis Kiggundu is one person who will not shy away from singing president Museveni and NRM party. He has invested heavily in NRM party in Kampala city to make sure that unlike in 2021, the coming elections see opposition members thrown out. Lord mayor Erias Lukwago and other opposition leaders have vowed to deal with him at personal level. Hamis Kiggundu is also in for all NRM party flag bearers from Kampala city.
PATRICK BITATURE; Patrick Bitature is a household name in Uganda especially in chairing government parastatal bodies. He recently relocated to his birth place Ibanda in western Uganda to direct politics of protecting the gains of NRM. He too has committed finances to that cause. He currently flies between Kampala and Ibanda looking for votes for the President and all flag bearers. He owns several properties within and outside Uganda and owner of Simba Telcom.
