The PRAU Excellence Awards are organised annually by the Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) to recognise and encourage excellence in the Public Relations profession in Uganda. The theme for this year’s award ceremony was “Uplifting PR excellence in tough economic times”.

While receiving the award on behalf of Vivo Energy Uganda, the Corporate Communications Manager, Cerinah Tugume said “Vivo Energy Uganda is passionate about road safety and has invested in several road safety awareness initiatives in schools, defensive driving trainings for boda boda riders, bus drivers and taxi drivers over the past four years.

The Tweddeko campaign was targeted at viewers of our partner NTV Uganda to educate and inspire them towards road safety behaviour change. The campaign also took to the road in November 2017 in a two-day caravan to educate road users along Kampala-Masaka highway in preparation for the festive season in December which is notorious for road accidents especially on Masaka highway.  This campaign could not be possible without the strong support of our committed partners NTV Uganda, Uganda Police, National Road Safety Council, Ministry of Works and Transport, Uganda Red Cross and the accident victims and citizens who generously shared their stories and pledges to challenge other road users. ”

The Managing Director of Vivo Energy Uganda, Gilbert Assi commented on the award saying “This gives me great joy and motivation to continue our efforts in transforming the road safety culture in Uganda. I dedicate this award to all road traffic victims and their families, to all who are investing in changing the road safety culture in Uganda today, and to all Ugandans that have committed to being disciplined road users. You are the real heroes!”

In his remarks at the opening of the ceremony Hon Frank Tumwebaze, the Minister of Information Technology and Communication and patron of PRAU pledged that his ministry will work with PRAU to initiate and sponsor a bill to give PRAU and the PR profession statutory recognition.

The PRAU President Cynthia Mpanga remarked that “We are very excited to see a remarkable improvement in the award entries submitted by the various companies this year and congratulate not only the winners but all participants this year. The PRAU Excellence awards continue to give PROs in both the public and private sector and various companies a platform to showcase the excellent work being done in the various PR fields. We are witnessing progress, an uplift of the standards, professionalism, emerging leadership and expert knowledge in the PR industry which is very commendable.”
