Stop encroaching on the wild life – M7 tells the public
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called upon the public to avoid encroaching on the wildlife conservation areas.
The president advised people to support the restoration of the degraded habitats for wildlife.
The President said this yesterday in a message read for him by the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero during United Nations World Wildlife Day, 2025 celebrations in Lira City.

Hon. Jane Ruth Aceng represented President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni
The United Nations World Wildlife Day is commemorated every year on the 3rd. March, with president Museveni himself often officiating himself as the Guest of Honor.
However, this year, the president in his wisdom entrusted Health Minister Dr. Hon. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero to represent him, a prof of unwavering trust the NRM government has in a Lango famous girl and she diligently represented the President.
The event that was co-hosted by the Lira City Council took place at the Mayor’s Garden in the heart of the commercial and industrial city of Lango (Lira), attracting various Wildlife conservation bodies, the high-ranking government officials, cultural and political leaders from across the country.

“Use sustainable farming practices that do not destroy wildlife and ecosystems,” Museveni urged, cautioning the people against draining, polluting wetlands, rivers, lakes, and plat trees as they support other restoration programs.
Notably, the head of State strongly discouraged illegal wildlife trade and trafficking of wildlife and wildlife products, stating that, the government will prioritise joint action among stakeholders and a common shared vision, goals, objectives and benefits of wildlife conservation and management and enhance local participation of the citizens in wildlife management by promoting community centered approaches in the management.
The president acknowledged that, tourism creates important job opportunities for many Ugandans and because of that, he will continue to finance heavily in the wildlife conservation sector.
Dr. Musinguzi James, the Uganda Wildlife ED, updated the public that are steadily recovering the wildlife.
He noted key challenges among them poaching, human activities in the National Parks that are leading to destruction of the habitats for the animals.
Most important to note is that, the Oyam South MP and Minister of Gender Betty Amongi who is seriously salivating for Dr. Jane Aceng’s seat in the 12th parliament, declined to attend this high profile national event. Not even her husband Akena Jimmy James Michael, in whose constituency the program took place, attended this.
Among few service-oriented and pro-people MPs that attended the event include; Alyek Judith Odongo, the Woman MP of Kole, and Lango Parliamentary Group Chairperson, Engola Betty, Woman MP of Apac and a reformed-Paul Omara of Otuke county.
On behalf of the President, whose voice she represented, Minister Aceng awarded the individuals and the institutions with trophies for conserving the wildlife.
The delegation of Dr. Aceng to represent the Head of State, created uncontrollable excitement among the electorates of Lira City and Lango region as a whole with many thanking the president Museveni for promoting and upholding Gender equality in his leadership.
It’s now upon Gender Minister Amongi to back off and leave the stage meant for dedicated, tested and trusted individual vidual like Aceng to toe along her unmatched blessing with little or no interference as Lira City electorates has since expressed discomfort with her move to unseat Aceng, describing such act as insense.
