Media personality Adelle Onyango will join other women of note as a nominee in this year’s Zuri Awards. The awards are an annual celebration of women and organizations that bring change through their work in their community.
This comes less than a month after Adelle launched her Adelle Onyango Initiative that focuses on youth empowerment, gender equality and mental health.
“This year, we as the initiative, plan to continue our scholarship and job shadow programs that commenced in 2017 and 2018 respectively,” Adelle said.
“We are also adding our skill-based workshops to supplement the other two programs and will be able to accommodate more people,” she said.
Adding, “The initiative will also influence change through storytelling and conversations. We run on the foundation of being unapologetically African and this means telling our true stories so a lot of thought provoking stories are on the way, this year.”
Zuri Awards were launched in 2017 and continue to create a platform that recognizes individuals making impact in regards to women and girls in their communities.
Asked what the nomination for the Humanitarian Award means to her, Adelle explained: “I think it’s humbling and an unexpected validation not only for me but the entire team behind the Adelle Onyango Initiative and our partners who believed in us when no one else did!”
She continued, “It’s a celebration for those who have directly or indirectly been impacted by my initiative’s programs. It’s really not about just me.”
