Presidential debate hangs in balance as Museveni, Besigye pull out

The NTV Uganda Live Presidential debate for 2016 presidential elections in Uganda hangs in balance after incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and opposition main candidate Kizza Besigye of the Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) pulled out.

NRM Presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni’s campaign spokesperson, Michael Sebalu, confirmed yesterday that President Yoweri Museveni will not be taking part in the 15th January 2016 live presidential debate.

The president’s pull out has also forced his main rival Kizza Besigye to do the same saying he can’t be part of the debate that has no incumbent.

“If the President isn’t coming then the debate has collapsed. Other candidates cannot debate among themselves without the incumbent who would be key in the debate. I will not participate too,” Besigye said. Besigye’s pull out leaves the 15th January live debate on the verge of collapse.
