I stand in firm agreement with the position taken by our security organs regarding the recently organized prayers for Dr. Kizza Besigye at Rubaga. It is a principle that must be upheld unequivocally: the house of God must remain independent and neutral in matters of politics. A church, mosque, or any place of worship is sacred ground dedicated to spiritual nourishment and communion with the divine; it is not an arena for political mobilization or partisan agendas.
We must discourage the actions of opposition leaders who seek to transform religious gatherings into political events, as was the case with the mass offered for Dr. Besigye. Such actions risk dragging faith institutions into political disputes and undermine their spiritual integrity.
Instead, we must encourage all Ugandans to respect the sanctity of our churches and mosques. Let us embrace the freedom of worship that we enjoy today, the liberty to practice the religion of our choice in peace. We are grateful to His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for guaranteeing this freedom, which allows us to pray without intimidation. Let us protect this gift by keeping our politics out of the pulpit and maintaining our places of worship as zones of peace and spiritual reflection.
