Police start hunt for People Power’s Waako
Deo Waako is a wanted man. In fact the Uganda Police Force have been looking for him since October 5.
On this day, Police at Kafumbe Mukasa opened a file SD REF 05/05/10/2018 against Waako and others for inciting violence.
In a letter signed by Deputy ASP Omoding, Waako and others yet to be specified are said to have been involved in “acts of people power mobilization which is against government programmes.”
The ‘People Power’ phrase was coined by Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, a leader of a new political movement, People Power Our Power.
The movement, a political vehicle that Kyagulanyi uses in standing up to challenge President Yoweri Museveni, is popular among young citizens who are the majority of the population but has always pitted the legislator in running battles with the Police.
Although the aforementioned Police letter served as a warning and summon for Waako and his groups to appear before Police or treason charges, the group has defied.
Police has therefore called on the public – especially in the areas of Natete, Katwe, Old Kampala, Kikajo and Ndejje – to alert it in case they know the whereabouts of members of the gang.
