Over 100 fish species to be exhibited at the Kampala Fish Festival
As the second edition of the Fish Festival draws nearer, organizers every now and then are coming up with new thriving ideas that will make the event colourful.
Betty Aliba, one of the event organizers has said that over 100 fish species will be exhibited this time round at the fish fest which is scheduled to take place on 5th May, 2018 at Uganda Museum.
The revelation was made during a meeting between the fish fest team and the Directorate of Fisheries in Entebbe as the two parties brainstormed to see the possible ways of making the day a success.
In the same meeting the fisheries directorate pledged to work with the fish fest team to address the issues of conservation and sustainable supply of fish as well as engaging more stakeholders in embracing the main objective of the event.
“Uganda is naturally blessed with over 100 fish species. That milestone is worth celebrating especially through the fish festival,” said the directorate team.
It was agreed that as Ugandans meet to celebrate this fish species diversity, they should equally remember their role in conservation and sustainable supply say not buying immature fish among other roles.
Meanwhile, the fun-filled event will allow revelers have a swipe to eat any fish of their choice as prepared by experienced chefs at affordable prices.
They will also have an opportunity to network with the entire fish supply chain from fisher men, farmers, investors and researchers to allow them deliberate on every ones role in ensuring sustainable supply.
