NWSC team inspects ongoing works for the Karuma Gulu Water Supply and Sanitation Project

The National Water And Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) team inspected works at Karuma, installations in Bobi, Minakulu, and Karuma, the Custom Corner Reservoir, and the treated water transmission pipeline from Karuma to Gulu.

Project Progress

1. Nile Water Treatment Plant
Current Status: Civil works have been completed
Ongoing Activities Installation of electro-mechanical works and automation systems is in progress.

2. Nile Raw Water Intake
Status: Intake screens and pipework are fully completed.
Ongoing: Installation of electrical units and submersible pumps is underway.

Water Supply to Enroute Towns
– Elevated Water Tanks installed and tested in Koro Abili, Bobi, and Minakulu.
– In Progress: Assembly of reservoir tanks in Kamdini and Karuma.

Custom Corner Reservoir
– Status
Construction of a 5300 cubic meter capacity tank is completed.
-The tank has been interconnected with the existing water supply system.
Treated Water Transmission Pipeline from Karuma to Gulu
Progress as of May 2024:
Completed 58 km of pipeline laid out of the total 69.5 km, marking an 85%
Current Activity: The contractor is replacing rubber seals to resolve the issue.

Projection
The joint site visit highlighted significant progress in various segments of the Karuma Gulu Water Supply and Sanitation Project.

Despite encountering technical challenges with the pressure tests, the project remains on track since the two contractors have committed to NWSC to deliver the project by the end of the year 2024.

The contractor for package 2 has more than doubled their human resource and plant and machinery to realize this commitment.
