Multiple Rally Team (MRT) finest driver, Manvir Baryan has won 2017 Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Rally.
Driving under the Kenyan team, Manvir Baryan and his Scottish navigator Drew Sturrock showed class with powerful machine at the 2017 Pearl of Africa Uganda rally.
The multiple rally team comfortably dominated the two day event from the first stage in Busika on Friday to the final finish in Kayunga district on Saturday.
Baryan and Sturrock hit a two-fold victory; winning the Pearl rally and topping the ARC category.
Baryan cruised his 2017 Skoda Fabia believed to have cost him $1m through the 203.30kilometre competitive distance with the fastest time of 2hrs, 9minutes, 13seconds. He won eight of the ten stages.
“I have really had a good time throughout the event. The stages, fans were all incredible. It really feels good to win in Uganda which is also like my home,” said Baryan.
Baryan is a nephew to Ugandan billionaire and the owner and Managing Director of Multiple Industries, Bob Baryan. Baryan’s father is the chairman Multiple Industries who are also the owners of Kampala Cement, Multiple Hauliers Trailers, Ndovu and many other big companies in East Africa.
The Pearl rally victory is Baryan’s third career win. He has earlier this year won the Mombasa and Fly540 rallies.
Manvir now takes the ARC lead with 40 points with three events to end the series.
Mr. Gunpreet Singh from the Multiple Rally Team (MRT) Organising Committee had this to say;
“In our heart of hearts, we knew he was going to win. Manvirs current form, prudence, calm demeanor supported by a top class WRC Skoda Fabia, World Class Engineers, Sponsors Kampala Cement & Multiple Group, are all well tuned factors that led to Manvir’s victory,” Gunpreet said.
Christakis Fitidis and Eric Nzamwita settled in an impressive second position to become the best placed local crew.
“I am happy for the position and I believe our good preparations paid off.
The position put Fitidis in the lead of the national rally championship with 315 points as well as registering his first ARC points.
In third position was Belgium’s Giancarlo Davite and Sylvia Vindevogel who also took third place in the ARC.
Zambia’s couple of Leroy Gomes and Urshlla Gomes finished in fourth followed by Kuku Ranjit and Kleevan Gomes in fifth and sixth respectively.
The event registered 32 casualties of the 52 crews that started the event.
Kenya’s Jaspreet Chatthe, Dilraj Chatthe, Ronald Sebuguzi, Valery Bukera, fan’s faourite Byona Ambnrose Omunyeeto, Omar Mayanja among others made up the Pearl rally retirement list.

Baryan’s Skoda Fabia 2017 car was the talk of the event as the billionaire’s son unleashed the Czech Republic speed monster. The car believed to be at a cost of $1m was the most expensive vehicle at the event.
Multiple Rally Team (MRT) was the only team that had a hospitality tent in Kayunga on Saturday.
At service time, you would think the car that of formula one with 6 specialised engineers working on the machine. Every fan at the event fell in love with the machine. It was worth a watching!!!!

Manvir in his Kampala Cement Sponsored Skoda Fabia beat off competition from a Hima Cement competitor at the rally.
It should be noted that Kampala Cement is now current market leader with high cement grade quality on the market today since it opened its doors 2 years ago. The battle of the three Cement Companies Kampala Cement, Hima Cement and Tororo Cement is already underway.
