Kawempe North 2016 Parliamentary seat aspirant, Joweria Nakyeyune has become the first person contesting for public office to publically come out and support the actions of Jolly Tumuhirwe, the maid who brutally beat up a 2-year old child in Kiwatule.
Joweria said the maid should be given chance to say her side of the story and that parents should stop putting the burden of the rising their children to the maids
Posting on her Facebook page, Joweria said the blame for the incident should be put on parents who she said have abandoned the burden of rising their kids to the maids. “People go into marriages and put the burden of rising kids to their maids, mothers and fathers should own up to their responsibility”, she said. She received a backlash of abuses from the general public but didn’t put down the post. The post is the most trending on social media in Uganda with over 3000 comments, 400 shares and more than 150 likes. Jolly who is on remand at Luzira Prison will appear in court on 8th December 2014 at Nakawa. Below is her post;
Nakyeyune Joweria; Naye Ugandans with being diversionary! What is so unusual with the maid’s actions? Some kids are hard-headed and ill-mannered; they deserve to be beaten back to sense. Mbu charged with attempted murder, is a touch a deadly weapon? Only wasting taxpayer’s money! Why do u go in marriage and put the burden of raising your kid on another person? Mothers and fathers should own up to their responsibility! Nothing the maid did is unusual, who has bothered to ask for a wage-little pay stirs up anger! May be the man of the house wanted to mount her! May be the lady of the house is cruel! Perhaps the kid is ill-mannered! A few hitting with a touch to raise such alarm!!! I think we ought to be objective…Let’s hear her out!!!
