MobiPay’s Malipo Platform Fuels Malawi’s Digital Payment Evolution

As Malawi continues its journey toward a fully digital economy, one local innovation company is taking center stage in shaping inclusive financial solutions: MobiPay Limited.

At the heart of MobiPay’s digital transformation strategy is Malipo, a versatile payment gateway that is streamlining how businesses and individuals in Malawi collect and make payments. Whether it’s through bank transfers, mobile money, or cards, Malipo offers a secure and seamless experience tailored to local needs.

“Malipo is our flagship FinTech product, designed to empower businesses by simplifying payment processing,” said Alex Piringu, ICT Manager at MobiPay. “It is available as an app on both Google Play and the App Store, and it supports all major payment options in Malawi.”

Beyond conventional business transactions, Malipo also powers a crowdfunding platform a space where users can launch campaigns and receive donations for various causes. This gives individuals and organizations an easy-to-use tool for fundraising, supported by the same secure payment engine.

However, Piringu points out that challenges like limited product awareness, financial literacy gaps, lack of capital, and complex licensing processes still stand in the way of deeper FinTech penetration.

MobiPay was featured on Day 21 of the #40Days40FinTechs Zambia and Malawi edition, a regional initiative that highlights trailblazing FinTechs transforming lives through technology. Having expanded from its East African roots, the program continues to showcase how local innovators are bridging the financial gap for underserved populations across the continent.

By offering integrated, user-friendly financial tools like Malipo, MobiPay is helping to ensure that Malawi’s digital economy is not only growing but growing inclusively.
