Lucky Ugandan Artists To Perform Alongside Superstar Nicki Minaj
The clock is ticking and three of Uganda’s finest young talents are set to hold our flag at what could be Africa’s biggest music show ever. Artists Maurice Kirya, Keko and Naava have been picked by sponsors, Sony Music Africa, to represent Uganda at the forthcoming TribeOne Dinokeng in Johannesburg South Africa next month.
About 350 top artistes are set to appear at the fest with performances spread across three days starting September 26th. This will be 72 hours of nonstop music.
Superstars including Nicki Minaj, J Cole, Ryan Lewis, Mackclemore, D Banj, Liquidip, Wiz Kid, Tiwa Savage , Kid Link, are all on the menu.
Maurice, Keko and Naava are all performing on the Diamond Stage which is one of the top three of the 60 stages set out for the show.
“I’d never have dreamt of performing with Nicki so soon. But you know, God is Great,” said Keko.
The Ugandan stars are among the few performers traveling with their own bands. About 100,000 music enthusiasts from across Africa and world over are expected at each of the three days.
Locally, the show is being promoted by Power Horse energy drink, who for a while have been more into sports and less showbiz.
Maurice Kirya believes the show is going to be inspirational to many Ugandan upcoming artists, and since its annual, many will be aspiring to be enlisted in the next ones.
“Every time I travel out to play, there’s always this feeling that I am doing this for my country. I am a bit nervous about thus one, but I think the three of us, will represent well and inspire many young talents here,” he said.
