Liberty General Insurance Uganda has secured a major industry accolade after its motor cover product, Protecta Bode, was recognised with the Judges’ Special Award at the IRA Insurance Innovation Awards 2025.
The recognition comes as Uganda grapples with frequent road crashes and a persistently low level of insurance coverage, leaving many drivers financially at risk.
Protecta Bode was developed as a practical alternative for motorists who find comprehensive insurance too expensive but need more protection than standard third-party policies. At a cost of 1.5% of a vehicle’s value, the product offers a more attainable option for individuals and small transport operators.
The cover extends to third-party injuries and deaths, property damage, driver medical expenses, and select vehicle repairs such as windscreens and lights.
Liberty says the product is aimed at cushioning motorists from unexpected costs linked to accidents, while also promoting safer road behaviour.
Built on a digital-first model, Protecta Bode allows customers to access services online. Through partnerships with platforms like SafeBoda and SafeCar, users can buy policies, complete inspections, and submit claims with ease.
Early performance data shows steady growth, with UGX 120 million already realised in premiums, 60 vehicles insured so far, and more than 300 in the onboarding process. The successful handling of claims has also helped strengthen customer confidence.
The product is further supported by collaborations with companies such as Easy Ride Uganda, which provides roadside support services to policyholders.
Liberty notes that the initiative is part of its wider strategy to expand inclusive insurance, improve road safety, and support sustainable business practices.
As the number of vehicles on Ugandan roads continues to rise, solutions like Protecta Bode are positioning themselves as key drivers in making motor insurance more accessible and reliable for everyday users.
