Kampala’s premier old skool block party, Back to Basics is back with for a refreshed ninth edition scheduled for November 25, 2016 at Zone 7.
Following the resounding success of the eighth edition, the sponsors Johnnie Walker have organized another exciting edition to close out the year in style. The organisers are rallying all old school and oldies music lovers to attend this event that will also double as the close out edition for the year 2016.
To give revelers an exciting evening, organizers have recalled part of the DJ cast from the previous edition to usher old skul partiers into the festive season. DJs BK (Ben Kuyoh) of House of DJs, Selector Jay (Joshua Baguma) from Guvnor, Boni (Bonfase Kifaru), Pita (Peter Kizito) and Val Tha Teacher (Val Okecho) of Capital Radio will captain revelers through the time tunnel back to musical decades of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s.
Lois Aber, the Johnnie Walker Brand Manager at Uganda Breweries says that the event presents an opportunity for lovers of the old school genre to recreate the long lost memories.
“Johnnie Walker is proud to be associated with this event that is meant to take folks down memory lane, bringing back the good times as they enjoy great tasting whisky. We plan to have two or three editions every year,” she said.
The ninth edition has been named the “Grown and Sexy Affair” because fans will be treated to rarely played throwback hits. The organisers hope to bring the ‘sexy back’ to old school, and make it more attractive across the youthful and older folks divide. Ugandan and international old school hits previously forgotten, will be mixed live in video fashion.
Val Okecho one of the organisers says, “We are in the business of preserving timeless classic hits and bringing these to the fore in a party format whenever and wherever we can. Evoking good memories for old times sake is what we love to do, more so with like-minded people. For this, we are excited to partner with the premium brand that Johnnie Walker is. The various Johnnie Walker whisky brands offer a wide choice of selection which easily blend into the lifestyle of the old school revelers to partake as they enjoy a fun night-out of timeless classics.”
