Upcoming singer Elsa Tawa Namubiru has described herself as a new unique talent in the Ugandan music industry. After backing up singers Sheebah Karungi, Iryn Namubiru and Eddy Kenzo on many occasions and for some years, the 17 year old has decided to move on and start a solo career. SB: Who is Elsa Tawa?
Tawa: I am an upcoming artist who has been backing up singers Sheebah Karungi, Eddy Kenzo and Iryn Namubiru, and many others on top of my high school studies. I have been backing them while in my high school but now it’s my time to kick off my solo career.
I was born in 2001 in Gayaza. I studied from St. Matia Mulumba Nursery School, Sir Apollo Kaggwa PS, Atlas High School Gayaza for S.4 then Central College in Mukono for A level and during my school time, i was so much engaged in Music Dance and Drama (MDD). I am in S.6 vacation.
SB: How did you manage to back these singers while in high school?
Tawa: I was backing up Sheebah Karungi, Eddy Kenzo and Iryn Namubiru while still in High school. During my holidays, i would run to studio and start singing, that’s when i discovered my talent. But it wasn’t an easy thing. I then started backing up the above singers although my mum was against it at first.
SB: How many songs have you so far released?
Tawa: I have at the moment released three songs titled ‘Nvunga’, ‘Nyingiza’ and ‘Ontamidde’ featuring Daxx Kartel. But I have many songs in store and will be releasing one by one.
SB: How is it going?
Tawa: It’s quite moving on well because i have passion for what I do. It is easy for me because I like it so much.
SB: What type of music are you doing?
Tawa: I do dancehall, R ‘n’ B. Actually I do vocal singing.
SB: Who inspired you into music?
Tawa: I look up to Juliana Kanyomozi, Iryn Namubiru, Jose Chameleone and late Moze Radio.
SB: What plans do you have this year?
Tawa: They should expect fire. It’s not going to be an album but it will be expect music fire.
SB: As an upcoming artist, where do you see yourself in the next five years?
Tawa: I want by then to achieve singing in Coca studios. Am a singer who loves and does live singing.
SB: What is your say about music industry?
Tawa: It is full of competition, 70% are true singers. It is also full of corruption and for someone to become a star he or she must work very hard and that’s what i am doing.
SB: Now how are you prepared to tackle such challenges?
Tawa: Am going to do what am supposed to do.
SB: Are you signed under any label?
Tawa: Sparkling Global Entertainment will be my label very soon. I am planning to have my own band because i want to help other upcoming singers to achieve their dreams.
SB: How would rate your music play list?
Tawa: I would say it is positive. They have started playing my songs because the music I do is a good one.
SB: What plans do you have?
Tawa: Hardworking and hardworking, I am a good performer and ready to roll the entertainment industry in Uganda.
SB: What is your message to upcoming?
Tawa: They just have to work hard, be talented and not to be lazy. If you know you aren’t talented, don’t bother because it’s not easy.
SB: What is your message to your fans?
Tawa: Let them be sure of the person they are supporting and should expect fire. The music is going to be changed and the reason is simple, Elsa Tawa is a new unique talent.
