Bridging the Digital Divide: Zambian Firm Powers Financial Inclusion Through FinTech Innovation

As Zambia pushes forward on its digital transformation journey, Bridging Gap Solutions (BGS), a homegrown tech company, is emerging as a major enabler of financial inclusion and digital access.

Founded 16 years ago, BGS has evolved into a multi-solution provider offering cutting-edge services in FinTech, secure systems integration, ERP, CRM, and ICT hardware solutions. Its flagship financial product—Pay Boss Banking—has become a critical tool for financial institutions across the country.

“Pay Boss Banking enables bulk disbursements, collections, and bill payments, and it’s accessible via mobile app, web, and USSD,” explains Chilekwa Banda, Director of FinTech at BGS. “It’s currently supporting banks, SACCOs, microfinance institutions, and lenders, handling over 10,000 transactions every month.”

With its recent licensing as a Payment Systems Provider by the Bank of Zambia, BGS is setting new standards in the industry. But the path hasn’t been without challenges. Banda points to persistent issues like cybersecurity risks, limited infrastructure, and slow adoption of policies that hamper the country’s full digital leap.

Despite these hurdles, BGS continues to innovate and collaborate. “Initiatives like #40Days40FinTechs are crucial. They spotlight local innovation and foster the dialogue and partnerships we need to grow the industry,” Banda adds.

The #40Days40FinTechs Zambia and Malawi Edition, now in its debut run in Southern Africa after success in East Africa, aims to showcase leading and emerging FinTechs solving real-world problems. The initiative has already highlighted over 200 stories across the continent, promoting inclusion and scaling innovations aligned with the Level One Project, Mojaloop, and other inclusive finance frameworks.

Bridging Gap Solutions’ journey is a testament to what’s possible when local expertise meets purposeful innovation—moving Zambia closer to a fully digital, inclusive economy.
