Akena shooting: Mathew Kanyamunyu, girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari charged with murder
The three prime suspects in the murder of Kenneth Akena have today been charged with murder. The three Mathew Kanyamunyu, his girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari and Joseph Kanyamunyu appeared in court over the shooting of Kenneth Akena at Lugogo Mall on November 12th this year. They have been charged with murder and remanded to Murchison Bay Luzira prison till 6th December.
Matthew Kanyamunyu, 39, Cynthia Munwangari, 26, and Joseph Kanyamunyu ,40, appeared before Grade One magistrate Noah Sajjabi at the Nakawa Magistrates’ Court on a joint murder charge.
It is alleged by prosecution’s Anne Ntimba that the trio and others still at large on November 12 along Kampala – Jinja road near Malik Car bond opposite UMA main gate caused the death of Kenneth Akena.
The trio was not allowed to enter into a plea to this grave offence which is only triable by the High Court and will appear in Nakawa court on again on 6th December.
Kenneth Akena, a social worker with a local non-governmental organisation, was shot in the stomach after he reportedly knocked Mathew’s car. He died on Sunday November 13th at Norvik Hospital on Bombo Road, Kampala.
Kanyumunyu and Cynthia have denied that they shot Akena saying they only acted as Good Samaritan.
