Airtel Uganda congratulates Denis Onyango upon African Accolade

Airtel Uganda, the fastest growing telecommunications company in Uganda and official sponsor of the Uganda national football team, has congratulates the Uganda Cranes goalkeeper and Captain Denis Onyango upon his momentous pan African accolade.

Onyango, who currently plays for Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa, was named Africa’s best goalkeeper during the 2018 CAF Awards in Dakar, Senegal.

The CAF awards are held annually to honor footballers and officials who distinguished themselves during the year. Last year, Onyango was shortlisted with 33 other illustrious players, most plying their trade in Europe.

Following the announcement, the Uganda cranes captain took to social media to share the great news in a short post saying: ”IF U BELIEVE IT, U CAN DO IT ” along with a picture of him standing next to other award winners including Egypt’s Mohamed Salah who won African Best Football player.

“Onyango winning this accolade creates a moment of national joy and Airtel Uganda is honored to be able to celebrate it with him. Once again, Uganda is enjoying the fruits of hard work, good team management and of course adequate support from a sponsor who believes in the Uganda Cranes team,” says the Managing Director Airtel Uganda VG Somasekhar.

Airtel Uganda has spearheaded football development across Uganda right from the grassroots through the Airtel Rising Stars tournament, to local leagues and finally to the Uganda Cranes national team.

Denis Onyango is the only player based in Africa on the selected Africa best all-star team. This includes;

Denis Onyango (Uganda); Serge Aurier (Ivory Coast), Medhi Benatia (Morocco), Eric Bailly (Ivory Coast), Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal); Thomas Partey (Ghana), Naby Keita (Guinea), Riyad Mahrez (Algeria); Sadio Mane (Senegal), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon), Mohmaed Salah (Egypt).
