Kampala: Diamond Trust Bank Uganda (DTB) and Universal Multipurpose Enterprises Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand access to quality housing and property financing solutions for Ugandans. The announcement was made today at DTB Uganda Head Office in Kampala.

The partnership will enable prospective homeowners and property investors to access structured mortgage and financing solutions that make property acquisition more affordable and accessible, while supporting the continued growth of Uganda’s real estate sector.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Managing Director, DTB Uganda, Godfrey Ssebaana, said the partnership reflects the bank’s commitment to developing practical financial solutions that respond to the needs of individuals, families and businesses. “Today’s announcement formalises a shared commitment between our two institutions to make home ownership more accessible for Ugandans. Through this partnership, DTB and Universal will work together to provide customers with better, more structured access to mortgage financing and a smoother home-buying journey—from the moment a family decides they want a home of their own to the day they receive the keys,” Ssebaana said.

He noted that Uganda continues to face a significant housing deficit, estimated at more than 2.4 million housing units, while demand continues to grow by hundreds of thousands of homes every year.

“This presents not only a challenge, but also an opportunity for institutions like ours to provide practical, sustainable solutions. Partnerships such as this one are essential if we are to make quality housing more accessible to Ugandans,” he added.

Managing Director of Universal Multipurpose Enterprises Limited, Muffaddal Yeolawala, welcomed the partnership, saying it would help address one of the biggest barriers to home ownership in Uganda.

“At Universal, we are committed to making home ownership more accessible for Ugandans. Our partnership with DTB Uganda will enable us to offer customers a more seamless property acquisition experience while contributing to the growth of Uganda’s housing sector,” Yeolawala said.

The partnership supports broader national efforts to increase access to decent housing, encourage investment in real estate and stimulate economic activity through property development and mortgage financing. Ssebaana said the collaboration builds on DTB’s recently launched Mortgage Finance solution, which offers structured, longer-tenure financing for credible property developers, as well as tailored mortgage products for individuals and corporate employees.

“Through this partnership, we are making that journey even more accessible, and we encourage all Ugandans who aspire to own a home to speak to us about the mortgage solutions available to them. Together, we can turn the dream of home ownership into a reality for many more families,” he concluded.
