The 2025/26 season’s early weeks have exposed City’s vulnerabilities, with Pep’s once unstoppable juggernaut looking more like a rusty engine. While they kicked off their English Premier League season with a flashy 4-0 win over Wolves, with new signing Tijjani Reijnders ‘showboating’ on his debut, they have since gone crushing.

A two nil home humiliation by Tottenham followed by a shocking 2-1 loss away to Brighton and Hove Albion on August 31, indeed proved that even the mighty can fall.Guardiola’s side sits on a measly three points after three games, their worst start under Pep.

The Citizens however have something to look forward to. Their new number one, Gianluigi Donnarumma is tipped for his debut but if his last performance for Italy against Israel in the nine-goal thriller on Monday 8th August is anything to go by, Man United forwards should feel motivated.

United meanwhile are gathering steam under Amorim’s fresh tactics. We stumbled out the gate with a 0-1 home defeat to Arsenal on August 17 courtesy of that sneaky Riccardo Calafiori strike but resilience shone through, clearly, the best team lost! A hard fought 1-1 draw at Fulham on August 24 highlighted our grit, followed by a pulsating 3-2 victory over Burnley at Old Trafford on August 30, sealed by an own goal, it was ugly to be honest but ‘A win is a win,’ we just needed it!With four points, we are perched above City on the table, while Chelsea and Liverpool surge ahead unbeaten.

But we will deal with them later. Amorim’s imprint is clear, Bruno Fernandes pulling strings in midfield like a master conductor, new signing Matheus Cunha is injured but pushing to be back in time to team up with Mbeumo and add to the firepower up top!

Now for the banter that has got City supporters squirming behind their bought and paid for silverware. Remember when City were just the ‘noisy neighbors’?

Before the oil money flooded in, United dominated Manchester with 20 league titles to their paltry eight, most of which arrived post take over. Sir Alex Ferguson once dubbed them “a small club with a small mentality” and that label sticks as their Etihad echoes with empty seats even on big nights. Manchester derby history leans red. Though City’s recent splurges have tilted some results, the tide is changing. Devoid of Kevin De Bruyne who bolted this summer and with Kyle Walker also departed, City’s core feels fragile. Bernardo Silva steps up as captain, but at 31, he can’t replicate De Bruyne’s magic, yet their Ballon d’Or winning Rodri seems out of sorts, so expect chaos in the middle.

Erling Haaland remains a scoring beast with a few goals already this season but our back-line anchored by Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt, and now someone else, but Onana in goal, we should be alright behind there.Picture this: Sesko gets his first start, leads the line with the unpredictable Mbeumo and Cunha behind him, Amad Diallo troubling Rayan Ait-Nouri with his Ivorian spark all night, Bruno’s thunderbolt shots from anywhere, City’s defense will be busy.

For the hosts, Omar Marmoush could shine, but without their full orchestra, they are ripe for a beating. My bold call is that United edges it 2-1 in what should be a nail-biter. Mbeumo bags one, Fernandes slots a penalty and Haaland nabs a late consolation. The Etihad will be hush as red celebrations erupt globally.

City boasts the budget, the boss and the buzz, but we have got heritage, hustle and the indomitable ethos of Sir Matt Busby. As kickoff nears, this is not merely a derby, it is a reclamation that Manchester is red eternally. On Sunday, 14 September, rally your crew, don the red, turn on your screen and tune into SuperSport to witness our lads reclaim the city. Glory Glory Man United!
