Dr. Abed Bwanika to introduce amendments that make Presidential contesting more difficult

Abed Bwanika

Dr Abed Bwanika has shocked Ugandans when he revealed that he wants to introduce amendments in parliament that make presidential contesting more difficult in Uganda.

He said that some people are unserious and even take it as a joke to go and pick nomination papers to contest as the president of Uganda.

Uganda is heading into the election early 2026 and different people are already geared up to run on different positions.

At the moment there are more than 100 Ugandans who have showed interests in running for the presidential seat and most of them have even picked up the papers.

According to Abed Bwanika, it is very annoying that many people don’t take some positions very serious and they think it’s a joke to go and pick the papers.

He said that he is going to work on the amendment that allows people to pay before receiving the papers rather than pay returning the papers.

With that Abed said he thinks people will start respecting that position and seeing it as important as it should be.

“We want to introduce amendments requiring anyone seeking presidential nomination forms to first make a payment before receiving them. Contesting for the presidency should be treated as a serious matter,”
