Mr. Mwebaze Kenneth is set to contest for the post of Mayor for Division A in Entebbe Municipality come 2026. He has set up a big plan for the people of Division A. Here is a take look
Primarily, the responsibilities of a Division Mayor are enshrined in the local government act and the constitution of Uganda and they include;
Infrastructure development through supervision. As a political head, his mandate is to be eyes on hand off on all government projects within my mandate.
To formulate/legislate on policies to run the area and that includes local revenue policy, making local ordinances or bi-laws.
He will assist in government policy implementation i.e. monitoring and ensuring smooth implementation of government programs targeting the poor like PDM, Emyooga, YLP, UWEP etc etc. These funds are disbursed at the division level and it is my mandate to ensure that they are given to the right categories of people.
He wants to ensure a clean city/town. It is a primary responsibility of the Division to ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of a town, waste management is key for the office I intend to occupy.
Safeguarding government property. Entebbe was originally government headquarters and to date much land still belongs to municipal council/government. It is incumbent upon my leadership to ensure that the interests of government are guaranteed and government property mostly land is kept safe from wrong elements.
Improving health care system. I will be part of the health committee in Entebbe Municipality and this gives me a bigger voice to advocate for a sound health care system in Entebbe. This can be done through lobbying the government and development partners to ensure the health services are put to some standard in interest of an ordinary resident.
Security. Division Mayor by law is the head of security in the Division, division Mayor is also a substantive member of the district security committee (DSC). Division Mayor is also a member of the Justice law and order sector of Entebbe sub district. This gives me a chance to rub shoulders with judges, top security leadership and I think it is an opportunity for me to scale up the security issues affecting my people using such forums. It is another great avenue to fight for the justice of those I call my people.
Improving education in government aided schools through supporting the already existing policies and ensuring effective supervision and attracting partners through twinning programs.
Vocal skills training as a way of dealing with a high rate of unemployment. Even before getting to office I am already assisting a good number of young people to acquire technical skills in Catering carpentry, mechanics, brick laying etc from the presidential hub in Kayunga. He intends to use this office to lobby for more numbers of beneficiaries as the best way of dealing with a high rate of youth unemployment.
Ensuring there’s trade order in Entebbe. Entebbe should not be known for having funny kiosks in the middle of the town. This can only be done thru tightening the grip on the physical planning department of the municipal council/Division and informing them about the good side of having an orderly city.
He says this can be possible through according all his time to the electorate and being available to know timely what is not happening right in the community.
Mr. Mwebaze Kenneth and his team are already on the ground mobilizing for the support ahead of the polls.
