Up To Now, My Mother Doesn’t Understand What I Studied At University-Evelyn Kemizinga

Evelyn Kemizinga is a comedian with Fun factory. She has been with the group ever since its inception and one of the founding members.

She says comedy is what she wanted to do ever since she graduated in school despite the opposition in her family to the extent that up to now, her mother doesn’t even know what course she did at campus.

“I love what I do because that’s what I studied. It gives me very much joy. When I was going to do that course of drama, I had some opposition from my family because they didn’t like it. Up to now, my mother doesn’t understand what I studied for at the university, “Evelyn Kemizinga says.

When she was in Senior Six (S.6), everyone was excited about the course they wanted to do. Around that time, students from People’s Theatre visited and she enjoyed their performance.

From that moment, she decided she would apply to pursue a course in drama and better still, her grades were good enough. She did it and graduated, then got married.

She joined Fun Factory through her university friend, Veronica Namanda, a fellow group member who invited her for one of the shows.

“She was the first to join so she invited me to go and watch what they do. I was not sure I could handle stage acting. I was so humble and shy, even now. To cut the long story short, I joined and found acting so interesting. I have never turned back.”

She graduated in 2003 and joined at the end of 2004. Her biggest challenge is balancing between being an actress, a married woman, and a minister at St. Mathias Church of Uganda where she is a church treasurer.

Her happiest moments are after a show when someone approaches her to tell her that she is their best actress. “It gives me joy. I have met so many people who tell me that I am so natural, and I am a favourite. Those thinks make me so happy.”

She will be part of the group celebrations dubbed The Big Sunday’ that is going down at the Kampala Serena Hotel on 1st October and tickets go for Shs120,000 for Platinum, Shs 200,000 for Gold and Shs 2.5m for a table. They can be obtained at quicket via the link https://qkt.io/TheBigSunday
