UG Connect Concert: A recovery plan for Ugandan Artistes
For over one and a half years now, artistes and all those involved in the arts industry have not had a venue or concert to perform at, and the UG Connect Concert, which started on Saturday 17th July 2021.
In partnership with the Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC), Next Media Services, through their NBS Television and Sanyuka TV brands, launched and aired the UG Connect Concert, aimed at giving financial support to the now starving music industry while also spreading hope to Ugandans through music, dance and drama.
The premiere edition of the UG Connect Concert featured Winnie Nwagi, Spice Diana, B2C, MC Kats, DJ Nimrod, DVJ Mercy Pro, Azawi and many more.
Over 50 more virtual concerts of its kind are expected to air every Saturday on NBS Television and Sanyuka Television from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm from the Next Media Park’s state-of-the-art Next Conference Centre. Every episode, like the first one, is expected to feature at least 15 entertainers, including artistes, DJs and comedians.
Spice Diana, one of Uganda’s best female artistes, while speaking on NBS Television’s “Morning Breeze,” welcomed the idea, saying, “This is a new concept, and I am ready to embrace it because the world is going digital and this is the new normal.”
UNCC Chairman, Sam Okello, said, “As leaders in this sector, we need to look for new strategic ideas that will propel the activities of the creative sector. UG Connect Concert is one of those ideas.”
Next Media Services Board Member, Isaac Rucci, also highlighted the fact that the plan for the concept is all-inclusive.
“Nobody is going to be left behind with the UG Connect Concert. Expect high energy. World-class entertainment. Those who intend to watch it on phone, make sure to download the Afro Mobile app. You can use it to watch both our NBS Television and Sanyuka TV,” said Isaac Rucci, Board Member Next Media Services.
