    All is set for the 5th edition of CBA Vintage & Classic Auto Show

    The CBA Vintage & Classic Auto Show today announced the 5th edition of what is billed as the classiest event of the motor and social calendar. The now annual event will be held at the Sheraton Hotel on July 30th 2016 where over 70 vintage and classic cars and 20 motorcycles will be on display for car enthusiasts. The CBA Vintage & Classic Auto Show will be showcasing some of the fanciest, oldest, showiest cars that Uganda has to offer.

    Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA) who also sponsors a similar show in Kenya has come on board as the title sponsor of the CBA Vintage & Classic Auto show 2016.

    Speaking at the launch event at the Sheraton Hotel, the Chairman of the Uganda Vintage & Classic Auto Show Dr. John B. Niwagaba said that this year, the show is attracting some of the biggest names in the vintage car collection including Sudhir, Wavamuno and many others.

    This year, expect to see some very exciting cars. We have already received entries of cars like Mr. Bill Farmar’s 1951 Citroen 15/6 and Kalvin Kagwa’s 1934 Wolsely and we have some new entries like Kakooza Wazir’s Bimula Limo and Ham Mukasa’s Heritage Car

    “We are very excited about the show and we keep growing every year in terms of numbers and the experience at large. This year, we shall be having some Kenyan Vintage car fans showcasing here for the first time. Our intention is to grow this into an international tourism sensation to have vintage car lovers flock in from all parts of the continent and indeed the world to come and have a feat of great vintage cars we have here in Uganda from decades past.” Dr. Niwagaba said.

    The Vintage And Classic Auto Show that started under four years ago has become a trendsetter in Uganda in a big way. The last few years have seen more and more people importing vintage cars in an unprecedented way as well as others restoring their old cars. The show will have a good mix of the newly imported vintage and classic cars as well as the perfectly maintained or restored models.

    The Vintage car show celebrates people who are passionate about cars, and the history behind these cars and we shall be hearing some of these stories of the exciting times the cars have had to experience through the years.

    “Uganda has a very rich history that we cannot tell without including the vehicles that have transported the great men and women and the moments we celebrate today. So these cars in a way lend themselves to our rich history and our passion is to preserve them for generations to come.”

    As has been the practice, there will be awards for some of the most outstanding cars on display that day including; Best Car, Car with the most intriguing history and to spice it up a bit, there will also be some social categories like best dressed. “For this edition, we are bringing in guest judges from the Kenyan Concours d’Elegance car show who have also been mentoring us and guiding us on how to continue to make this event successful”

    He added that this year the Vintage and Classic Auto Show was observing strict rules, regulations and standards. For example, to qualify for the show, cars manufactured less than 25 years ago would not be allowed to enter the competition. The car has to be in good decent condition and also be pleasing on the eye.

    To precede the car show, the Vintage and Classic Auto Show has organized a snail trail drive through town on 29th July where the cars that will be showcased at the Sheraton will drive through town to give people a sneak peak of what they should expect.

    The Vintage & Classic Auto Show is a family event with activities for everyone. There will be a performance from Lillian and the Sundowners, children’s play area, a food court and hospitality tents with bites and drinks and so much more fun and games.

    The events have year on year attracted big and bigger crowds and this year, the organizers are expecting thousands to turn up for a fun filled day.

    Some of the other partners of the event include MOGAS, Sheraton Kampala Hotel, Events Warehouse, Sanyu FM, NBS TV and Nile Gold.

    The show is endorsed by the Automobile Association of Uganda (AAU.

    Entrance fee is 10K for kids and 20K for adults however you can win a ticket by tuning in to 88.2 Sanyu FM and NBS Television programmes respectively.

    Arab Money Fab Parties is set to celebrate its fifth anniversary on 18th December 2015 at Sheraton Kampala Hotel Gardens.

    The event will see partiers part company with Shs150,000 or $25 or £40 to access the venue according to its creative Director Sue O’chola de Roy.

    ROKO Construction Ltd Injects cash in Kids Of Africa’s ‘Run For Fun’

    Construction heavy weights ROKO Construct Company Limited has injected cash into Kids of Africa run for fun event slated for Sunday 8th November 2015. The ‘RUN FOR FUN’ is meant to raise funds for the building of a modern dental clinic, and to celebrate their 10th anniversary. This is the 5th edition of the “Run for Fun”. The growth of the event has been most encouraging. The inaugural run in 2011 had over 300 runners of all ages, in 2012 there were over 500 runners, and by 2014, the run had 780 participants and this year’s run is expected to have more than 1000 runners.

    The starting point will again be from Kids of Africa located in Bwerenga (Wakiso District). Coming from Kampala, take the Entebbe Road to Kawuku (25 km). At Kawuku (which is 4km from Kids of Africa), there is a Kids of Africa signpost on the left at the boda-boda stage. Take a LEFT turn and continue on the murram road.

    After 3km you will come to a “Y” junction. Continue on the left, past the football pitch (on the right) Go down a hill and then up another hill (with Lake Victoria on the right). As you go up the hill, you will pass new houses on the left. Take a right turn at the Kids of Africa signpost. The car park can be seen and the village entrance is 100m from this point.     Last year we raised approximately 250 million Ugandan Shillings which was used to complete the Kids Pioneer Primary School. This year’s objective is to raise 550 million Ugandan Shillings which will build a modern dental clinic to cater for dental needs of both the children in the village and in the local community.

    There will be 5km, 10km and 21km races, with the following age categories: Under 10 years old (5km only), 10-14, 15-18, 19-49, 50+. Participants should meet at 6:30am to collect their event T-shirts and race numbers. The 21km will start at 7:30am sharp; the 10km race at 7:55am, and the 5km at 8:15am. The courses are set in Wakiso District, between Kampala and Entebbe on the shores of Lake Victoria.

    In addition to being challenging, the routes take runners through local countryside, villages, and have picturesque views over Lake Victoria. ROKO Construction has been the events main sponsors for the past 5 years and UAP Insurance, Orient Bank, Yako Micro Finance, Jubilee Insurance, IHK Hospital, Bank of Uganda, Sheraton Kampala Hotel and Multiple Industries are the other sponsors.

    Kids Of Africa

    Kids of Africa, a Swiss initiative, is a children’s home operating in Uganda. It takes care of 95 abandoned children in ten family homes, each headed by a foster mother. The children represent the next generation of Ugandan society and it is hoped they will contribute to the futures of similarly disadvantaged youngsters in years to come.
