Standard Chartered Bank, Le Petit Village, Ranchers Finest Announce Sponsorship For Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon

Happiness is building up as the second edition of the annual Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon comes closer and it will take place on Saturday, September 2, 2023, in the Kasese.

As the organisers are getting so excitement with different sponsors coming on board like  Standard Chartered Bank, Le Petit Village and Ranchers Finest to make the second edition a colourful run.

The announcement was made today 18th August during a press conference at their respective offices in Kampala.

According to Mr Sanjay Rughani, the Standard Chartered bank Chief Executive Officer said they are happy growing with the marathon and they will have a great experience exploring the Rwenzori region this year. He also added saying that the company’s support extends beyond a financial contribution. In addition to its sponsorship, the bank will spearhead awareness campaigns about the marathon, leveraging its deep-rooted presence in Kasese over the decades.

The marathon aims at ensuring social empowerment of people living in the Rwenzori region and earning government money through forex, will be an experience to reckon with as a number of people continue to express their willingness to associate with the brand.

Standard Chartered Bank supported the marathon last year and they are returning again with a boost of Shs 100 million that will be for the awards.

Addressing the media was Ms Priscilla Jomo the Sales Executive at Ranchers Finest who said that they will provide food stuff like processed meat to hotels and supermarkets in the region among others.

According to Amos Wekesa, the organiser said that last year in the first edition of the run, the region ran out of meat supply, and he thanked Ranchers Finest for coming on board.

“We have got a chance of having well-done meat outside Kampala and this is the beginning of improving meat across the country. This marathon is all about bringing opportunities to Kasese. In the future, the Rwenzori region should be able to contribute USD500m in forex. We are happy that they are going to sponsor 100 runners,” he said.

Mr Brian Juuko, Le Petit Village sales executive, said the marathon is a journey they are taking from Kampala to Kasese and it is not just about the run but the experience.

Mr Juuko revealed that they are looking at accommodating about 48 delegates and these will have a spa and gym that will help the runners prepare for the run adequately.

Wekesa explained that they will have 13 different countries taking part and their mission is to create as many opportunities as they can for this region.

“I believe when accommodations work, a number of people get employment in the area. The more we support entities the more we support employment in Uganda. What we have with them is a long-term partnership and they will be sponsoring 100 runners.”
Awards

There will be four categories of winners to be awarded. The top five in 42kilometres, 21 kilometres, the local award and PWDs.

For the 42kilometres, the first winners (male and female) will each get Shs8m, the second winners Shs 5m, the third Shs3m, Shs2m for the fourth and Shs1m for the fifth winners.

In the 21kilometres, the first winners (male and female) will each get Shs5m, second winners Shs4m, third Shs3m. fourth Shs2m and Shs1m for the fifth winners.

For the local awards, 42 kilometres’ first winners (male and female) will each get Shs500,000 and the second Shs250,000. In the 21kilometres, the first winners (male and female) will each get Shs 300,000 and the second winners will get Shs200,000.
