Exclusive Interview: Gloria Kebirungi talks about her quest to become comedy queen in Uganda

Gloria Kebirungi is a Ugandan comedianne and actress. She is jolly, down to earth and easy to relate with.

She talked to Showbiz Uganda about her comedy career which kicked off with her comedy clips of ‘Slay Queen Series’.

Who inspired you into comedy?

Gloria: I was inspired by Evelyn Kemizinga of Fun Factory who i knew personally. She later introduced me to the great Fun Factory team that nartured me to a better comedian and also gave me a platform to showcase my talent on stage and also in a tv series known as ‘Mizigo Express’.

How did you come up with Slay Queen series?

Gloria: When i ventured into comedy, i was always given roles that brought out the slay queen character. I grew into it and perfected it and this made me come up with skits related to the life and behind the scenes of slay queens therefore the ‘Slay Queen Series’ were born.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

Gloria: I wanna be an established comedian, a great actress that will inspire more famale commedians into the industry.

What do you say about Uganda’s comedy Industry

Gloria: The Ugandan comedy industry is doing so well but its mainly dominated by men, we need more women to join and we strike a balance. I hope that within a few years the active female comedians would have inspired more female comedians into it.

What message do you want to pass onto your fans and what should they expect?

Gloria: I am grateful for their support, they really positively embraced me and i appreciate. They should expect more hilarious skits, this is just the beginning.
