A woman who celebrated her 110th birthday on Saturday has attributed her health and remarkable longevity to enjoying three beers and a shot of whiskey every day for the past seven decades.

Agnes Fenton from Englewood, New Jersey is now one of the few supercentenarians in the world.

According to her, it doesn’t take much to keep her going: God, whiskey and beer.

In an interview with ABC News, Fenton revealed her daily beer routine started 70 years ago after a health scare involving a benign tumor.

When her doctor discharged her, she said he left her with this important piece of advice: “Agnes, you must drink three Miller High Lifes a day.”

Agnes has for decades remained loyal to her budget-friendly beer of choice: shots of Johnnie Walker Blue Label, a top shelf liquor that costs more than Sh15,000 ($150) a bottle.

According to The Record, her caregivers have recently taken alcohol out of her daily routine because she eats less now.

Despite being childless, Agnes took care of more than 40 children during her years as a nanny; and the then children who are now all-grown up, turned up in huge numbers to celebrate her 110 years of life.

“When I was 100 years old, I went to the mirror to thank God that I was still here. And I thank him every morning,” she told The Record. “He gave me a long life and a good life and I have nothing to complain about.”

Nurses stay with her around the clock, while neighbors and friends often stop by to check on her.

Fenton, who still has her hearing and eyesight, spends her days reading newspaper, listening to news on radio, praying and having long hours of sleep.

There are only 300 to 600 estimated supercentenarians in the world, but to Agnes, the milestone birthday ‘is just another day’.

Today at 2pm in Jinja, Court has been hearing a case where a boyfriend of Desire Mirembe will be answering to a plea of murdering her. Mathew Kirabo a fourth year student at the Medical School is the prime suspect in the murder of his girlfriend, Desire Mirembe. Mirembe was a second year student at Makerere University. But what events could have led to her murder?
Like all young love birds, the butterflies had led Mirembe to fall in love with Kirabo. As a first year student majoring in speech and language therapy, she’d fallen in love with Kirabo a student at the medical school. The boyfriend’s passion could have been driven by the parents, one of her parents is a Medical Doctor at Mulago while the other is a lecturer at Uganda Christian University.
Weeks before she was murdered, Mirembe was to have a long chat with her Pastor where she confessed that she’d seen one of her close friends participate in a murder. The close friend in her description was her boyfriend. She was depressed and told the pastor that she was looking for a way out of the relationship without causing harm to herself. She confessed she was being troubled by the fix in which she found herself.

RIP; Desire Mirembe

Many friends had begun noticing something off the hook about the relationship of this two. Desire Mirembe was now trying to keep a distance from this over-protective boyfriend who got more suspicious of Mirembe’s next moves. According to friends of Mirembe, Kirabo was so protective of her that he had access to his Facebook passwords, he went through her Whatsapp messages and her phone just to make sure she was not trying to cheat on her on expose anything she might have witnessed him doing.
On 10th Friday, while at Ark Hostel in Katanga, Mirembe’s boyfriend requested that they meet at Café Javas. Mirembe had earlier tried to turn down the request but after much plea, the boyfriend picked her up and together they went to Javas. Her initial Friday plan had been to head over home for a birthday party of one of her relatives that weekend.

The boyfriend claims that his communication with Desire Mirembe had stopped at 9pm. It is the boyfriend who gave the earlier version of Mirembe having told him how she was heading to Jinja for a fellowship. Once in Jinja, messages were sent to her mother and her best friend in Nairobi where Mirembe claimed she was stuck somewhere in Jinja and she was unsure of the place.
However, the new confession from the boyfriend gives a new version to the story. The boyfriend now confesses that he masterminded the murder and executed it himself. Mirembe’s family had been forced to hire two private investigators, one of them being an experienced investigator from the UK who helped establish all clues pinning down Kirabo, the boyfriend.
The boyfriend now confesses that he indeed drugged Desire Mirembe’s drink at Café Javas, and was the one who sent messages to the family and best friend as a way to disguise his acts. Asked why he’d decided to cut the right nerve of Desire Mirembe’s throat, he confessed that as a medical student he knew that the right nerve was superior and would cause quick death to his victim. It is only Kirabo that knew about Mirembe’s best friend in Nairobi and the mother of Mirembe with whom they used to speak on Viber.
But how Kirabo executed his murder has left many in shock as per his confession. At around 3am in the night Kirabo was seen around Ark Hostel and the askari remembers Kirabo asking him how to load airtime on Airtel (Mirembe’s phone line) and then asking whether the Askari had seen Mirembe around. Later on, he headed off to Church in his car in a way to hide his tracks. The Church Members would be witness to him not having been in Jinja anywhere at that time, part of his confession reads.
What however betrayed him was his failure to account for the time between 9pm and 3am in the night. He could not tell the investigators what he’d been doing at that time. DNA samples from Desire’s body have also linked with samples from his car (the car that was recovered at the scene of the murder with blood spots). He was also to drive to Kitezi where he dumped Mirembe’s phone as a way to kill evidence. Investigators were also able to get the shoes he was wearing on the day they met with Desire and the foot prints have matched those at the murder scene in Kawolo.
His confession has shocked the family of Desire Mirembe. Asked whether he’d witnessed any murders in the past or participated in any, Kirabo took over 10 minutes pondering over the answer until he accepted in affirmation. Many believe, he could be the serial killer that’s been on rampage around Ugandan Universities.
The Police Authorities have also been shocked that none of his parents has showed interest in the case as other parents would. It’s only the mother who confessed that indeed she’s the one who gave her son the car he used while they drove off with an unconscious Mirembe to Jinja.
Today, Mathew Kirabo will give the judge a full testimony of this murder and how he executed it. This is a wake up call for all University Students and parents all-over the country. As he confessed, a teary Kirabo asked that he be granted a second chance to become a better person.
However, it also shows a failure in the country’s investigations system. What would have happened had the family not chosen to hire private investigators to follow up the case? What if Desire Mirembe didn’t have any of those influential people to follow up on her murder? Till next time, we hope justice will get served.
Speaking to a few of Kirabo’s classmates at Medical School, they expressed shock at his confession. Many say, that he was known as a regular fellowship guy, charming, though protective of his girlfriend. “We remember him playing the guitar more often and spicing up the environment at medical school with humour and music.”
The person they knew and the person Kirabo is, now seem to be in deep contrast to each other. What next? Only court can decide

Who Is Dustin Brown?

Dustin Brown (born December 8, 1984) is a German professional tennis player. Brown competes mainly on the ATP Challenger Tour, both in singles and doubles. He reached his highest ATP singles ranking of World No. 78 in June 2014 and his highest doubles ranking of World No. 43 in May 2012.

He is one of only a few players to have a winning record against the 14-time major champion and former No. 1 Rafael Nadal, having beaten him on more than one occasion with both of his wins coming on grass at the 2014 Gerry Weber Open and the 2015 Wimbledon Championships.

Early life

Brown was born on December 8, 1984 in Celle, West Germany, a town situated near the city of Hanover. His father Leroy is native to Jamaica, while his mother Inge is German. Dustin’s parents met in Jamaica and later settled in Celle. Outside of tennis, he played sports such as football, judo, and handball throughout his childhood. He began to focus solely on tennis at age 8, saying, “When I made the decision to pursue tennis instead of football, of course I wanted to be successful. I didn’t want just to end up playing for a club somewhere.”[5] Despite not seeing tremendous success in tennis as a junior, he drew attention from Kim Michael Wittenberg, an American who ran a tennis academy near Hanover. Growing up in Germany, Brown faced racism in both school and on the tennis court. When Brown was 11 years old, in 1996, he and his parents emigrated to Jamaica and specifically moved to the city of Montego Bay. The decision was partly made because of the cost of playing tennis in Germany and to make Dustin more disciplined on the court. He said, “I was pretty mentally soft when I was young. Anything could happen when I played—I could lose my temper, I got disqualified.” In Jamaica, in which track and field, soccer, and cricket are considered the most popular sports, he only got a chance to play tennis on poorly maintained public courts and with low-quality balls. Brown also said, “Things were just so different. Coming from Germany, having a Game Boy, cable TV and stuff and going to Jamaica and having to realize, ‘Shit, there are other things in the world that are important.’ I’m very thankful that happened. Maybe without going there I wouldn’t be where I am right now.” Nevertheless, he continued to play junior tennis.

In 2004 20-year old Brown became unhappy with tennis in the country, but seeing his potential, the family decided to move back to Germany. In that same year Brown’s parents gave him a Volkswagen campervan that could sleep up to three people. Since he did not need to stay at hotels, he was able to use the money saved to travel around Europe playing in tournaments. He said, “It was a brilliant idea by my parents, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to go on playing. It was a means of competing week in, week out.” Brown, who also owned a racquet stringing machine, would earn money by restringing racquets for other players at a low cost as well as allowing players to use his spare beds for a night.

Career

In his second main circuit appearance after a first-round loss at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in 2003, Brown defeated fourth seed Marco Chiudinelli and No. 139 Laurent Recouderc to reach the quarterfinals of the 2010 SA Tennis Open in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he lost to eventual runner-up Stéphane Robert. Brown became the second Jamaican after Doug Burke at the 1989 BP National Championships in Wellington, New Zealand, to reach the quarterfinals of a main ATP Tour event.

On May 17, 2010 Brown cracked the top 100 for the time first time in his career and attained a singles ranking of world No. 99.

Brown played at his third ATP tour event at the 2010 Aegon Championships (Queen’s Club) and defeated his first-round opponent Frank Dancevic, in three sets. He lost in the second round to Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan.

Brown announced in June 2010, that due to a lack of funding and support from the Jamaican Tennis Association, he was tempted to switch nationality, and play professional tennis for Great Britain, his paternal grandparents being British. Instead, in October 2010 he decided to compete for Germany, his country of birth. Brown’s first event playing under the German flag was Eckental. Brown won his first title playing under the German flag at the 2010 Lambertz Open by STAWAG.

At Wimbledon Brown came through qualifying without dropping a set. After beating Yen-hsun Lu in the first round, Brown then upset 10th seed Rafael Nadal in four sets in the second round, before losing to Victor Troicki in four sets in the next round.
