  • Museveni wraps up Teso campaigns, promises belt road to Karamoja

Museveni wraps up Teso campaigns, promises belt road to Karamoja

BUKEDEA – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni wrapped up his campaign tour in Teso with a message of peace and development.
As he spoke to a crowd in Bukedea, he reflected on the journey Uganda has made, from the turbulence of war to the stability enjoyed today, especially in regions like Teso.

Drawing on his personal experiences, Museveni recalled how he had camped at Nyero Rock during his fight against rebels, and he noted the remarkable progress since those times, including the construction of a primary school on the very site where he once camped.

“Yesterday, I was in Kumi, and I remembered when I used to camp at Nyero Rock to fight the rebels. And I’m glad to hear that my people have built a primary school there,” Museveni shared, underscoring the contrast between past conflicts and present-day peace.

He reminded the crowd that his leadership had been instrumental in bringing stability to Uganda, allowing it to thrive as a beacon of peace, even amid conflicts in neighboring countries like South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

A central theme of President Museveni’s address was the significant strides Uganda has made in infrastructure development, particularly in roads.

Museveni emphasized that roads are the foundation of economic development, and Teso has seen substantial improvements in its road network over recent years.

The region is now connected by tarmacked roads, such as the one stretching from Tororo to the South Sudan border, and another connecting Moroto to Bugisu, with further road projects planned to link Teso with Karamoja, northern Uganda, and the rest of the country.

“There is another road we are making from Soroti to Abim,” Museveni announced, emphasizing that these new road networks will dramatically improve access and mobility in Teso, facilitating trade and integration across regions.

He also assured the people of Teso that the remaining three key roads, including one linking Kumi to Ngora, will soon be completed, further solidifying the area’s connectivity.

With roads already in place, Museveni also touched on the crucial need for ongoing development in rural areas. He highlighted the road project connecting Kumi to Ongino, which will link up with the ferry to enhance regional trade, as well as the Katakwi-Toroma road, which will give more direct access to Lake Kyoga.

“Once these roads are completed, all of Teso will be linked with Karamoja, with Northern Uganda, and with the rest of the country,” he promised, ensuring that the region would not only be connected locally but would also play a more central role in the country’s overall development.

The President recounted the relentless struggles against cattle rustlers in the region, a threat he had confronted personally. He praised the peace achieved under his administration, crediting the National Resistance Movement (NRM) for its success in tackling insecurity.

Today, he emphasized, Uganda remains an “island of peace,” home to over 1.9 million refugees, with security forces always ready to neutralize threats before they can disturb the region.

Museveni outlined the significant strides made in both economic and social infrastructure in Teso and beyond. With the expansion of road networks, electricity, and water systems, Teso has seen major improvements.

The NRM Chairman pointed to the widespread electrification efforts, with most sub-counties now receiving power, and promised that even the most remote areas, like Kocheka and Kowena, would soon be connected to the grid.

In terms of water supply, Museveni spoke proudly of the progress made, noting that 80% of Bukedea’s villages now have access to borehole water. He further promised the completion of a major water scheme aimed at ensuring every village has access to clean, piped water.

The ambitious Kyoga-Gweri-Teso Water Scheme, he added, will cover districts across the region, using a gravity-powered system to transport water from Lake Kyoga to surrounding areas, a model that had already been successfully applied to provide water to Kampala.

In the area of social infrastructure, Museveni highlighted the NRM’s commitment to improving education and healthcare. He spoke of the ongoing construction of new schools and health centers to ensure that every parish and sub-county has access to quality services.

“Today, you have 98 government primary schools in Bukedea, and 9 secondary schools,” he said, emphasizing the NRM’s aim of ensuring that each sub-county has one government secondary school. He acknowledged that some sub-counties still lacked secondary schools but assured the crowd that work was ongoing, with new schools being built, including the Kabarwa and Bukedea Town secondary schools.

On healthcare, Museveni outlined plans to upgrade health centers, with specific emphasis on upgrading Aminit Health Center and constructing new ones in remote areas like Komuge, Aligoi, and Kowena. These efforts are aimed at ensuring equitable access to health services, especially in rural areas.

    The Belt Road to Karamoja

The President concluded his remarks with a bold vision: a comprehensive road network connecting Teso with Karamoja and beyond.

He promised the completion of the road from Soroti to Abim, which will link Teso to Karamoja and the rest of the country, facilitating trade and fostering regional integration.

Museveni also spoke of the plan to enhance agricultural irrigation schemes in the region, particularly the Achomai Irrigation Scheme, which will prevent flooding and provide water for crops during the dry season.

He closed with a thought-provoking question for the people of Bukedea: “Do you sleep on the tarmac road at night?” The answer was clear: no, they sleep in their homes. His point was that infrastructure alone is not enough. What matters most is how it transforms lives. As the people of Teso wake up to better roads, electricity, water, and schools, they will have a bright future ahead.

“The road is not the destination — it’s the way to progress. And that progress will bring you closer to your dreams.”

Serere hails Museveni for uplifting the girl child

Serere: The people of Serere have hailed President Yoweri Museveni for his continued efforts in empowering women and uplifting the girl child through education, peace, and government development programs.

During Museveni’s campaign rally in Serere on Monday, Minister of State for Fisheries and Woman Member of Parliament for Serere District, Hellen Adoa, praised the President for transforming the lives of women and empowering the girl child through peace, education, and government development initiatives.

Adoa reflected on the significant changes in Serere since Museveni’s leadership brought peace to the region. She recalled the challenges of growing up amid insurgency and credited Museveni with restoring peace and stability, which has been a cornerstone of development in the area.

“When I was a child, we suffered under insurgency. But after President Yoweri Museveni took power, he stabilized this country. Today, Serere is peaceful, and we are determined to protect that peace,” Adoa said.

She shared her personal journey as an example of the opportunities available to women under Museveni’s leadership, recounting how she was able to establish five schools at the age of 23 — a feat she attributed to the peace brought by the President.

“At 23, I was able to establish five schools because of the peace President Museveni brought. That is how a young woman can build her dreams in a stable nation,” she said.

Adoa also emphasized the success of the Parish Development Model (PDM), a government initiative aimed at improving rural livelihoods. She highlighted how the program has enabled women in Serere to start businesses, rear animals, and educate their children.

“The women of Serere and Uganda were once neglected, but today they can access PDM funds and grow economically. We are ready to protect the gains of PDM so that everyone can benefit,” she added.

She praised the growing financial independence of women in Serere, noting how they are now playing a crucial role in improving household incomes across the district.

In addition to women’s empowerment, Adoa commended the government’s youth empowerment programs, such as the Presidential Skilling Initiative and the Youth Livelihood Program, which have had a transformative impact on the youth in Serere.

“I identified over 6,000 youth in Serere who had been neglected. Through the First Lady’s office, we secured UGX 300 million to support them, and they are now starting projects that will transform their lives,” she said.

She emphasized that Serere, one of the largest youth populations in Eastern Uganda, is experiencing a major shift as young people take on new opportunities and leave behind their struggles.

Adoa also highlighted government support for the fisheries sector, noting that UGX 1 billion has been allocated to the Teso region to improve the livelihoods of local fishermen.

“It is only this government that remembers the fishermen. The lake may still face challenges, but there is improvement. The fish are growing bigger, and fishing communities are hopeful again,” she said.

The Minister also discussed the long-awaited Kumi–Tapar–Serere Road, which is now finally set to be tarmacked. She expressed excitement over the infrastructure development that will improve connectivity and contribute to the region’s economic growth.

“For the first time, our road has received funding. Serere is going to see a tarmac road, and we cannot wait to witness this development,” Adoa said.

Museveni Emphasizes Wealth Creation, Free Education

President Museveni, in his speech, emphasized the importance of wealth creation and free education, providing updates on the government’s infrastructure development and its commitment to securing a better future for Uganda’s children.

“We are building the infrastructure needed to open up Uganda. Roads, water, and electricity are all part of our economic transformation,” Museveni said.

On water, he highlighted the significant progress made in Serere, where 277 villages have access to water supply systems. 235 villages now have clean water, representing 85% coverage.

The President assured the people that efforts are underway to extend these systems to the remaining villages, including the completion of key piped water systems like the Serere Town Council and Ochapa Town Water Supply.

“Water is a basic need for both humans and animals. We are working to ensure that everyone in Serere has access to clean water. We’ve already constructed small-scale irrigation systems to support local farmers,” Museveni explained.

The President also focused on the importance of education and how his government has prioritized it. He reflected on how, in the 1980s and 1990s, the government took over primary schools and transformed them into government-owned institutions to ensure equal access for all Ugandans. He reiterated his vision of having one government primary school per parish and one government secondary school per sub-county.

“The foundation of every successful nation is the education of its children. We made education free, and we will continue to build schools and health centers across the country,” Museveni said.

He highlighted that, of the 15 sub-counties in Serere, 10 now have a government secondary school, with plans for more in the remaining sub-counties.

On wealth creation, Museveni stressed the government’s commitment to empowering individuals and communities, particularly through small-scale enterprises and agriculture. He reminded the people of Serere that economic success lies in their ability to make the most of government resources such as irrigation systems, PDM funds, and support for local businesses.

“We have created avenues for wealth creation, from irrigation to small businesses. Now, it’s up to you to make the most of these opportunities,” he urged.

Museveni concluded by reaffirming his commitment to free primary and secondary education, which he sees as crucial to lifting families out of poverty and building a prosperous future for the country.

“Education is the key to creating a prosperous Uganda. It’s the future of our children, and we will continue to support it,” he said.

He acknowledged that while there have been challenges, the NRM remains committed to improving service delivery and strengthening its grassroots mobilization.

“We know we are not angels. There may be errors in local or central government, but to govern is a process. We continue to learn, improve, and consolidate the gains we have made,” Todwong explained.

He also pointed out that the NRM has refined its campaign strategy, ensuring better engagement with grassroots communities to strengthen the party’s connection with the people.

  • Use peace to create wealth, Museveni tells Katakwi

Use peace to create wealth, Museveni tells Katakwi

KATAKWI;  President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged the people of Katakwi to take advantage of the peace ushered in by the NRM government to create wealth and improve their livelihoods.

The President, accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, addressed a mammoth rally at Katakwi Booma Grounds in Katakwi Town Council, where thousands of residents gathered to welcome him and reaffirm their support for the NRM.

In his address, President Museveni commended the people of Katakwi for being steadfast witnesses to the peace and stability that the country now enjoys. He recalled the difficult years when the area was ravaged by insecurity, forcing residents into camps, and said the transformation since then was proof of the NRM’s success in restoring peace.

“The people of Katakwi are the best witnesses of peace because I camped here when everyone had fled to IDP camps. I remember visiting Ngariam and Achowa camp, where people were massacred by the Karamojong. Today, all that is history. The NRM defeated the rebels and cattle rustlers, and we removed 41,000 guns from Karamoja. That is why people are back in their villages,” President Museveni said.

He noted that peace was the first major contribution of the NRM government to Uganda’s transformation, followed by development in key sectors such as roads, water, education, and health. He cited the construction of major roads like Soroti–Moroto and Soroti–Lira, as well as ongoing plans for the Katine–Ochero and Soroti–Amuria–Obalanga–Otuke roads. He also commended the progress made in water access, noting that 342 of Katakwi’s 550 villages now have boreholes, representing 52% coverage, and pledged that every village will soon have at least one borehole to ensure access to clean water.

The President also highlighted government investments in piped water systems at Abwenget, Kapujan, Usuk–Koritok, Toroma, Magoro, and Katakwi Town Council, as well as ongoing irrigation and flood-control projects that are helping communities adapt to climate challenges.

On education, he revealed that Katakwi currently has 78 government primary schools and 10 secondary schools, but promised that every parish would eventually have a primary school and every sub-county a secondary school. He also outlined health sector improvements, including ongoing works at Katakwi General Hospital, Toroma Health Centre IV, and the upgrading of several health facilities across the district.

Turning to wealth creation, President Museveni cautioned citizens to distinguish between government-led development and household wealth. “NRM brings development—roads, schools, electricity—but wealth must be created by you in your homes. Development is ours; wealth is yours,” he said. He assured residents that the government’s livestock restocking program, which had faced earlier delays, was now back on track, with each household set to receive five cows.

He further explained that the government’s skilling hubs were equipping young people with practical skills to generate income. “These youth are now producing hospital beds, shoes, and other items that were once imported from China and Italy. This is the practical way to fight poverty,” he added.

The First Lady, Maama Janet Museveni, thanked the people of Katakwi for their unity and loyalty to the NRM, urging them to continue nurturing peace and patriotism. She praised President Museveni for his steadfast leadership and called on supporters to emulate his example by working together to sustain peace and progress.

She emphasized that God has used the President and the NRM government to establish a firm foundation of peace and unity in Uganda, which has enabled the nation’s development. She encouraged NRM members to reach out to those who have not yet joined the Movement, saying growth in numbers strengthens both the party and the country.

Vice President Jessica Alupo, who is also the Woman MP for Katakwi District, thanked the President for his continued support to Teso and for spearheading initiatives that have improved livelihoods, such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga programs. Rt. Hon. Anita Among, the Second National Vice Chairperson (NRM), pledged total support for the President, praising him for ending cattle rustling in Teso and empowering local leaders.

Local leaders, including Hon. Calvin Echodu and Mr. Okiror John Robert Claire, reaffirmed Katakwi’s unwavering support for the NRM, noting that peace and government programs had transformed the district’s fortunes.

As he concluded his address, President Museveni reminded the people of Katakwi that peace is not an end in itself but a foundation for wealth creation and transformation. “Where there is peace, there will be development. And where there is development, there must be wealth. Let us use this peace to create wealth in every home,” he said.

  • Museveni campaigns in Kaberamaido, urges fishermen on best practices

Museveni campaigns in Kaberamaido, urges fishermen on best practices

KABERAMAIDO — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on fishermen to adopt responsible fishing practices to protect fish stocks and promote sustainable livelihoods.

Speaking during a campaign rally in Kaberamaido District, the President advised residents to use proper fishing nets and avoid catching immature fish, warning that destroying young fish threatens both the environment and future incomes.

“It is taboo to catch small fish,” Museveni said. “Let them grow and lay eggs several times before you harvest them. If we protect the young fish, we will have enough for the future.”

The President said the government is setting up designated fish ponds in different areas to support organized and sustainable fishing. He also encouraged youth, including university graduates who have not yet found employment, to take up fish farming as a source of income.

“If someone has finished university and has no job for two years, they can start fish farming,” Museveni said. “It brings income and food security.”

In his address, the President highlighted three of the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) key contributions to Uganda’s development — peace and stability, infrastructure development, and wealth creation.

He praised the progress made under NRM leadership, noting improvements in road networks, electrification, and water projects across the Teso subregion.

Museveni mentioned ongoing works such as the tarmacking of the Otuke road, and plans to extend it further to Amolatar.

The President also acknowledged persistent challenges in power reliability, promising to investigate interruptions despite the country’s sufficient electricity generation.

The President was accompanied by the First Lady, Janet Museveni, and senior NRM leaders. He urged residents to continue supporting the NRM to consolidate gains in peace and development.

“Peace, development, and wealth creation — these are the pillars of our progress,” he said. “Together, we shall continue building Uganda.”

Maama Janet who spoke earlier hailed the NRM for building a strong pillar of peace.

“I want to thank God for using the President and the NRM government to build a strong foundation for our nation, Uganda — a foundation that has brought peace and stability to our great homeland,” Maama Janet said.

“I also want to take this opportunity to remind you all on that day — to vote for the President and the entire NRM team — so that Uganda can continue building on this strong inheritance of our homeland.”
