Bell Lager to Deliver Halloween Enjoyments at Roast and Rhyme

Halloween celebrations are usually defined by the nighttime, bizarre and scary costumes, and snacks. This year, Bell Lager is bringing a Mpola Enjoyments twist to the upcoming Afro-Halloween edition of Roast and Rhyme at Jahazi Pier Munyoyo.

Mpola Enjoyments is a new way of having fun in unique and unconventional ways defined by chill vibes with friends, roasted meat and ice-cold Bell Lager anytime, anywhere.

Happening on the 30th of October 2022, this will be the last edition of the quarterly picnic experience by the lake, and a celebration of Uganda’s love for roasted meat, live music and coming together with friends and family.

Unlike the rest, this edition will feature African artefacts and Halloween-themed décor to portray an Afrocentric Halloween vibe for the revellers. The experience will also feature a mini carnival with a variety of games, a themed food section, Bell Lager cocktail bars, a photo booth, a roasting area, and of course live Ugandan music for groups of friends or family to enjoy.

According to the organisers, anyone will be welcome to take part in the open mic karaoke sessions and lovers of meat will be challenged to a grilling competition that will see the winners walk away with Bell Lager hampers.

“This edition of Roast and Rhyme presents a great opportunity for us to engage our revellers in an exciting experience that merges Halloween with Mpola Enjoyments. As usual, we will go out of our way to ensure that our consumers enjoy a chill afternoon and evening with those closest to them, with a great Halloween experience, some Nyama and cold Bell Lager,” said Edgar Kihumuro, the acting Bell Lager brand manager.

Tickets are available at Soothing Spa (Acacia Mall), Nail Villa (Senana Building), Swangz Avenue (The Square, 3rd Street Industrial Area), Positive Emotions (Garden City), and Jahazi Pier Munyonyo for UGX 80k early bird and UGX 100k at the gate. They are also available online via MOOKH.com

  • Bell Lager’s Karaoke Experience a Crowd Favourite at Nyege Nyege

Bell Lager’s Karaoke Experience a Crowd Favourite at Nyege Nyege

Most people attending the Nyege Nyege Festival at Itanda Falls were always on the lookout for a place to have a seat and relax after walking across the different experiences spread across the large expanse of the festival grounds.

Many eventually found this haven at Bell Lager’s ‘Mpola Mpola Nyege Vibes’ area of the festival, which was a crowd favourite throughout the weekend for its chill set-up and one-of-a-kind karaoke experience.

Once there, revellers were treated to comfortable pallet seating, group board games and cold Bell Lager served alongside succulent grilled meat prepared by the different vendors available at the festival.

On the karaoke front, anyone was welcome to submit any song of their liking – whose instrumental would be played and they would perform it in front of the entire crowd.

The performances were extremely interactive – with more and more members of the crowd signing up for the experience, including Swangz Avenue’s Benon Mugumbya and Steve Keys.

When the karaoke was not happening, some of Uganda’s most talented DJs entertained the relaxed crowds with great mixes, such as Ali Breezy, Alza, Melvin, Emmanice and Bryan from Kampala.

And from Jinja, DJs Janja and Douga made it a point to give their better-known counterparts from Kampala a run for their money – all of which came together to keep the crowd thoroughly entertained.

Edgar Kihumuro, Bell Lager’s acting Brand Manager, said the brand wanted to give attendees an experience where they could have a good time in a calm environment.

“Nyege Nyege – by nature – is an upbeat festival, which means those that attend are ready to spend a good amount of time on their feet.

However, as a brand, Bell Lager decided to curate a unique experience that would allow attendees to still have a great time in a much more relaxed manner while surrounded by friends and long-lost acquaintances, some games and karaoke by the riverside.

And this is what we mean by Mpola Enjoyments,” he said. According to the brand, Mpola Enjoyments is a new way to have a good time and is defined by chill vibes with your crew, some meat (nyama) and an ice cole Bell Lager any time, anywhere.

One of the factors that contributed to the success of the Bell experience at Nyege Nyege was its location between the River Nile and a steep hill and accessible through 3 different access ramps located at different locations on the hill.

This meant that those that made it down the ramps weren’t very eager to embark on the steep climb back up the hill towards the main festival grounds.

Typically, Nyege Nyege is defined by a high tempo, high energy and extremely vibrant mood, however, Bell Lager – one of the festival’s sponsors – will provide a chill experience for attendees interested in having fun in a laid-back and calm environment.

Happening this weekend from the 15th to the 18th of September at Itanda falls and dubbed the ‘Mpola Mpola Nyege Vibes’, the Bell experience is nestled between the main stage and the food court and will entail a cosy and comfortable seating area, a fireplace, karaoke sessions and exciting group games for groups of friends to indulge in as they take a break from the rest of the festival’s excitement.

Additionally, The Meat Guy will be on hand to deliver exclusively-prepared Bell na Nyama combos, which will be on offer alongside affordable discounts on Bell Lager – all against the serene backdrop of the River Nile under the brand’s Mpola Enjoyments campaign.

‘Put a Ring on It’ among others games to be expected at the Mpola Enjoyments zone

Under the campaign, consumers are welcome to have a good time characterized by chill vibes with friends, some Nyama and an ice-cold Bell Lager any time, anywhere.

Throughout the festival weekend, the brand will be giving away Bell Lager goodies for lucky participants who take part in the different activities on offer within the experience.

Edgar Kihumuro, Bell Lager’s acting Brand Manager, said, “Nyege Nyege is a celebration of the different experiences that make Uganda the pearl of Africa. In line with this, Bell Lager will deliver a unique experience that will allow attendees and their friends to enjoy the festival in a fun, calm and responsible environment.”

He added that the brand is proud to join in this celebration of Uganda’s creative and natural beauty, which is breathing life into both the creative and hospitality sectors following the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on these respective sectors of the economy.

According to the event organisers, they are working in tandem with all the authorities and the relevant security agencies to ensure order and security throughout the 4-day festival.

  • Pictorial: Roast & Rhyme Delivers Epic 14th Edition

Pictorial: Roast & Rhyme Delivers Epic 14th Edition

Picnic mats and camping chairs. Sun hats and shades. Cold beer and grilled meat.

This was the vibe at Jahazi Pier Munyonyo as Roast and Rhyme held its epic 17th edition last Sunday.

This being the first edition since the lifting of lockdown in January, the organisers – Swangz Avenue and Bell Lager – came out in a big way with an incomparable all-round experience.

As usual, guests were encouraged to carry their own grills and meat with fire marshals on hand to help them set up, in addition to several food vendors, including the Meat Guy.

An exciting cook-off pit two journalists and two members of the public selected at random against each other, with each being given limited ingredients, one type of meat and a trivia question that would earn them a chance to pick any other ingredient, with the winner walking away with a ‘Bell na Nyama’ hamper complete with a brand-new grill.

The emcee, Roger Mugisha, then initiated a Kiss Cam and of the 5 couples selected, only one followed through with the kiss – Bebe Cool and his wife Zuena; another hugged; while the rest simply looked on, clueless about how to go about kissing their workmates or cousins in public.

It was very awkward for them, but fun stuff to watch for the rest of the crowd.

This being the Reggae Ragga edition, live reggae music filled the atmosphere as Elijah Kitaka and the Lions of Africa band set things off with a performance that included a cover of Koffee’s ‘The Harder They Fall’.

The legendary Tshaka Mayanja and the Black Roots band followed with their lead singer Tonya Ahenda locking the crowd in a trance with her powerful voice covering some of the world’s most iconic reggae tunes.

In a stunning feat, Kenneth Mugabi hopped on stage and engineered a masterful mash-up of his ‘Naki’ with UB40’s ‘Cherry Oh Baby’.

The event also featured performances from Vinka, Mudra, Winnie Nwagi and Ziza Bafana who performed with a live band. In-between performances and all through to the end of the event, DJs Alisha and Selector Jay entertained the crowd with reggae and ragga mixes.

Overall, the event was the ultimate display of Bell Lager’s Mpola Enjoyments theme, which encourages consumers to have a good time anywhere, at any time with friends, some games, grilled meat and ice-cold Bell Lager.

Matilda Babuleka, Bell Lager’s Brand Manager, said, “Bell Lager continues to be driven by the necessity to constantly deliver new and exciting experiences for our customers. With Roast and Rhyme, the sunny weather, picnic vibe and the lakeside breeze come together to deliver the ultimate Mpola Enjoyments.”

  • Rumours Fly as Roast & Rhyme Organisers Stay Quiet About Performers

Rumours Fly as Roast & Rhyme Organisers Stay Quiet About Performers

With less than a week to go, the organisers of the upcoming Roast and Rhyme – Swangz Avenue and Bell Lager – are being unusually tight-lipped about who will be performing at the picnic-style event.

According to the organisers, the Reggae Ragga Nyam Nyam edition, slated for Sunday 27th February at Jahazi Pier in Munyonyo will usher the public back “outside” with a bigger and better fun-packed day with friends, chill music, games, roasted meat and cold Bell Lager by the lakeside under the brand’s “Mpola Enjoyments” theme.

On the entertainment front, the event has previously featured live performances from A-Pass, Winnie Nwagi, Jose Chameleone, Azawi, John Blaq and many more.

However, our trusted sources are still being cagey about who will grace the stage this time around. It’s been rumoured that since this is the first Roast & Rhyme to be held after almost 2 years of lockdown, the organisers have something big planned.

It’s worth recalling that in June 2020, Swangz Avenue and other players officially put out word of rapper Rick Ross performing at “the first post-COVID event”, but didn’t give details as to when the show would happen.

Could this be it? Rozay, as he’s sometimes known, has previously worked with reggae and dancehall artists like Skip Marley and Konshens, in addition to headlining the 2016 High Vibes Roots and Reggae Festival in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

People had good time with families and friends at the Reggae Ragga Nyam Nyam Edition.

Partiers enjoyed the event fully as they danced to reggae Ragga music from the stars of the game like Bob Marley (RIP) Lucky Dube (RIP) and many others.

The Bell Lager sponsored event didn’t leave out Ugandan stars as new Swangz Avenue kid on the block Azawi took to the stage to entertain revellers.

Janzi Band was also there to do what they do best ‘live music’. A-Pass and John Blaq added more fire to the event as they took to the stage and thrilled fans.
