The Kira Municipality parliamentary race is intensifying as reports emerge that People’s Progressive Front (PPF) candidate Hon. Ssemujju Nganda is seeking an alliance with National Unity Platform (NUP) contender George Musisi.
The move appears aimed at countering NRM’s Daniel Kananura, who is emerging as a strong frontrunner for the seat ahead of the January 2026 polls.
Over the past few months, Kananura has been engaging voters through door-to-door campaigns, receiving overwhelming support from youth and women’s groups.
The incumbent MP, Ssemujju Nganda, reportedly feels threatened by Kananura’s rising popularity, prompting attempts to curb his momentum.

Kananura, a businessman and philanthropist, has also been addressing pressing local issues, including the Kasokoso land dispute.
He has pledged to collaborate with the government and local communities to find lasting solutions.
Speaking at recent campaign events, Kananura emphasized his priorities for Kira Municipality.
“In collaboration with PLU, the government is determined to create more wealth and jobs, deliver education and health services, ensure justice and equity, protect life and property, and achieve economic and political integration,” he said.

As the contest intensifies among Kananura, Musisi, and Nganda, opposition leaders are reportedly considering forming alliances to avoid splitting votes—a strategy that could favor Kananura and the NRM.
The NRM candidate launched his campaigns yesterday at Kiwologoma and Kijabijo Primary School, attracting significant voter turnout.
Residents attending the campaign launch highlighted challenges affecting Kira, including rapid urbanization, poor infrastructure, waste management, environmental degradation, poverty, inadequate housing, unemployment, and deteriorating water quality.
Kananura pledged to prioritize these issues, emphasizing practical solutions over political maneuvering.
