    Ms Aisha Latifah Naigaga, a gisu by tribe is too passionate about football. She talks, breathes, eats and smells football, you can not beat her on anything to do with football. She is ever promoting the football game on her social media platforms especially Ugandan soccer.

    What drove Aisha to love football

    Aisha grew up from a family of soccer players. All her brothers play football though they didn’t make it to professional but are good at it.

    She also has some relatives like Khalid Aucho who plays for the National team so she says she is their fan.

    Aisha said the football talent in the family triggered her to understand more about football to an extent that she had to go back to school to study football administration and management. She is a believer of Ugandan football who is devoted to serve the game for the rest of her life.

    Aisha is a diehard of Uganda Cranes, Vipers FC in Ugandan Premier League, Arsenal in English Premier League, Bayern Munich in Bundesliga, Inter Milan in Italian Serie A and Barcelona in Spanish La Liga.

    The State Minister for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang has congratulated Uganda Cranes for the big win against Congo Brazzavile on Monday evening at Namboole. The Minister went on to praise Ugandans for cheering the national in big numbers at home turf.

    “A big performance from Uganda Cranes against Congo this evening. A well deserved 2-0 victory. Thank you Ugandans for turning up in numbers to support the boys. Congratulations lads,” Hon. Peter Ogwang tweeted after the game on Monday.

    He called on Ugandans to keep filling Namboole and cheering the national team. “Sports unites us all, it makes us speak one language,” he added.

    Step aside, Football is back and our very own Uganda Cranes team will be in action playing against Kenya 
    in a qualifier match for the 2022 Qatar FIFA World cup.
    The game is scheduled for this  Thursday 11th 2021 at 4:00pm, at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
    We all know or perhaps have heard that Airtel is  the official sponsor of the Cranes and today we sat down Henry Njoroge, Marketing Director Airtel Uganda to share more details on the same.
    Below is his full interview
    SB: We are getting closer to the final Qualifiers of the 2022 World Cup which will take place  in Qatar and we know that Airtel is the official sponsor of the Cranes, tell us about this bond 
    and its impact on the national team
    Njoroge: Thank you. Airtel indeed has sponsored the Uganda Cranes Football team since 2013 and
    has been privileged to see the team grow in leaps and bounds from and individual player level to the team level nationally and internationally.
    We saw the team qualify for AFCON 2 years back to back after waiting for 39 years, we have  seen some individuals on the team like the former captain and goal keeper get global recognition, to mention but a few.
    So to answer your question, our bond has seen us bear fruit with the team, FUFA and fans at  large. This is something we are particularly proud of as a brand.
    SB: Alright, so we may not know what it takes to prepare the team for these games and Ugandans are eager to see the 2022 dream came to light in Qatar, enlighten us on this and what is Airtel doing to support the team?
    Njoroge: This is true. After qualifying for AFCON twice, naturally you want to hit the next big thing,  which in this case is the World Cup. Airtel as the main sponsor is very keen on supporting the  team to realize this dream.
    To support this cause, we have worked and continue to work closely with FUFA, among other stakeholders so that we accord the team the much needed support, both be in cash and in
    kind so as to enable them meet their day to day operational expenses

    SB: Currently Uganda is second in the group with 8 points and a win on Thursday may strengthen our position, as fans what could be your rallying message towards this match?
    Njoroge: The boys have so far done well and we always come out to support them and make sure they are ready for these games. Our win against Rwanda was huge because it gave us more hope.

    Airtel Uganda celebrates the Uganda Cranes performance at AFCON

    Kampala: On Friday the 12th July, Uganda Cranes official sponsors Airtel Uganda officially welcomed the National Football team back from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt at a dinner hosted by the Kampala Serena Hotel.

    In his remarks, Airtel’s Managing Director V.G Somasekhar noted that he was delighted with the performance exhibited by the players during the AFCON games in Egypt and pledged to continuously support the National team and Ugandan sports in general.

    “We are here today to celebrate the bigger achievement we got from the African Cup of Nations. Special thanks to the players, coaches, and everyone who contributed to the team’s success in ensuring that we reached the round of 16, as Airtel Uganda, we are married to football in general and the Uganda Cranes. We promise to put Uganda on top of the football map,” he commented.

    Speaking on behalf of the National team, team captain Dennis Onyango Masinde lauded Airtel, FUFA, National council of sports and his teammates for the collective efforts towards the team’s success.

    “I thank Airtel Uganda for being the brand behind our success, FUFA, National Council of Sports and the government for the support towards the development of the National team. I thank my teammates for the togetherness from day one even when we were knocked out.

    “I’m honored to be part of the team and we shall continue to move together with Airtel as we strive for bigger wins,” he noted.

    FUFA was represented by Rogers Byamukama who thanked Airtel Uganda for its support towards the sport of football.

    “Apart from the National team Uganda Cranes, Airtel Uganda injects millions of money in the Masaza Cup competition and Airtel Rising Stars tournament. It is prestigious to work with Airtel Uganda and as FUFA we are aiming to work harder for project 2026 and the next AFCON qualification,” he added.

    The dinner was attended by various dignitaries who included Airtel Managing Director V.G Somasekhar who was the host, Airtel’s Head of Marketing and Communications Remmie Kisaakye, Hajji ZubairGaliwango, Rogers Byamukama (Head of Marketing and chairman licensing committee at FUFA), the Uganda Cranes players led by the captain Denis Onyango, Hassan Wasswa, Farouk Miya, Emmanuel Arnold Okwi, Tadeo Lwanga, Isaac Muleme and Allan Kateregga, coaches MatiaLule, Fred Kajoba, Musician Eddy Kenzo, FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein Marsha, FUFA Marketing Manager Esther Musoke, the press and individual guests were in attendance.

    On the 6th of July 2019, both FUFA and  National Team Head coach of the Uganda Cranes Mr. Desabre Sebastien Serge Louis mutually agreed to terminate the contract between the two parties.

    The reasons for termination of the employment contract are for the benefit and growth of both parties.

    FUFA recognises the contribution by Mr. Desabre for the improvement of the sporting and professional organisation of the Uganda Cranes inclusive of qualification to the AFCON 2019 Finals and also to the Round of 16.

    Mr. Desabre is grateful to the people and the Government of Uganda, FUFA, Sponsors, Staff and the players that have provided him a good environment to fulfill his obligations in his first time role as a National Team Coach.

    FUFA will communicate any further development about the Uganda Cranes technical staff and future programmes of the National senior team in the nearest future.

    It was an evening filled with fun, passion and entertainment as Airtel Uganda hosted football lovers to the viewing of the Uganda Cranes Vs DRC football match on Saturday evening.

    The match that saw the Cranes defeat Congo 2 – nil ignited hope in the hearts of the revelers who attended the viewing party at Seven Sport Lounge in Industrial Area.

    The Uganda Cranes face Cape Verde this Saturday in a historical match that if won will qualify them to play in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).     Economic and civil rights activists who doubles as inspirational speaker, Frank Gashumba has applauded the Ugandan National Football team “The Uganda Cranes” for making the country proud. The activist while speaking in the wake of the country’s elimination from African Nations Cup participating for the first time since 1978 said the team’s speed doesn’t matter and gave them kudos for flying the country’s flag. He urged fans to turn up in big numbers to welcome the team when they return home of Friday. This is his statement;

    ‘Your speed doesn’t really matter! Forward means forward. Thank you Denis Onyango and the entire Uganda Cranes team. Our boys performed beyond our expectations and you really made us proud. Qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nation was a surprise and miracle to me because we failed so many times before to make it up there.

    As Ugandans we should always develop a culture of appreciating those who have done their best especially at a national level. It will send a clear message to them that they weren’t alone that’s why I am appealing to all of you Ugandans, to go to Entebbe Airport to welcome the Uganda Cranes team as Heroes. If Ugandans went to Entebbe Airport and lined up to pick Gaetano after his eviction from Big brother Africa, I pray that number multiplies 1000 times the day our boys will come back. Actually arriving in Kampala, President Museveni sent a helicopter to airlift Gaetano to meet him where he was up country and am hoping he should appreciate these boys who carried our flag up there.

    Uganda Cranes in a must win AFCON 2017 tie against Egypt

    Uganda Cranes must avoid a loss against The Pharaohs of Egypt to avoid early exit from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

    The two nations face off at the Stade de Port Gentil on Saturday at 10:00pm Ugandan time with each seeking maximum points although a point would still give them chance to fight for a slot in the quarter finals in their respective penultimate Group D fixture.

    Going into the game, both sides failed to win on Tuesday with Uganda losing 1-0 to Ghana while Egypt record tournament winners were held to a frustrating goalless stalemate by Mali.

    Mali will take on Ghana in the first game of the day 7:00pm.
