Innovation and Creativity to headline PRAU Awards 2024

Kampala: The Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) has announced this year’s Award Ceremony to be held on 29th November 2024 under the theme Recognising Innovation.

This is the second year of the return of the awards after a 7-year hiatus and the PRAU is enthusiastic about ensuring the culture of progress and continuity in the PR profession in Uganda.

This was announced at the launch to kickstart the organisation of the November event. The categories and how entries will be submitted as well as the authenticity of the judging criteria, and auditing firms are among the areas covered during the launch.

There are exciting and competitive categories to showcase and these include a critical new entrant – the Students Award which is celebrating young professionals to recognize their potential and groom them into seasoned PR professionals.

Some of the other categories in the Awards are the Media Relations & Media Management Campaign Celebrating successful media relations efforts and campaigns; Event or Experiential Campaign Recognizing outstanding event planning and execution; Internal Communication Campaign Focusing on effective communication within organizations; Crisis Communication Management Highlighting effective crisis communication strategies and responses; Online Publication Acknowledging innovative and impactful printed or online publications used in the field of communication; Overall PR Campaign Acknowledging the best and exceptional PR campaigns that impacted positively on an organization’s brand and its reputation and the Lifetime Achievement Award Honoring individuals with a long-standing impact on the field of PR, which will be specially selected by the Governing Council. The common thread for all the categories will be demonstrating innovation and creativity in the PR campaigns.

Speaking on the significance of the Excellence Awards, PRAU President Tina Wamala said, “Every year, PR practitioners design and implement amazing PR interventions for their respective clients or employers.”

She added that, “When amazing work is developed, and executed exceptionally well, it is only right that it gets recognized.”

The need to create winning campaigns and services for companies continued to be the overriding factor that drives PR professionals to excellence. Participation in the PRAU Awards provides opportunities to attract new business as agencies and individual professionals are able to demonstrate outstanding design and execution competence.

“The PRAU Awards are a testament to the dedication and excellence displayed by individuals, organisations, and professionals in the field of Public Relations and Communication.” said Tina Wamala, President of PRAU.

The PRAU Excellence Awards contribute to the profession and are carried as a banner that continues to uphold the industry.

Centenary Bank Head Fabian Kasi Set To Grace 12th Edition of PRAU Health Run

Mr. Fabian Kasi, the Managing Director of Centenary Bank is set to join public relations practitioners from the Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) for the PRAU Health Run slated for Friday 3rd August 2018.

The PRAU Health Run, the 12th edition of its kind, is geared towards promoting networking opportunities and physical fitness amongst its members and other institutions.

The PRAU President, Ms. Cynthia Mpanga, looked forward to the participation of Mr. Fabian Kasi and the team from Centenary Bank while also urging other MDs and CEOs to embrace the PRAU Health Run: “We are grateful to Mr. Fabian Kasi for honouring our invite to join PR practitioners for this run. We know him for not only his stellar performance as a banker and MD but also supporting sporting initiatives such as the PRAU Health Run” said Ms. Cynthia Mpanga.

The first PRAU Health Run was held in 2016 and was started in a bid to help PR practitioners live a healthy lifestyle and break the monotony of their day to day office jobs.

On his part, Mr. Fabian Kasi gave remarks on Centenary Banks support for sports and heath associated initiatives: “Centenary bank’s partnership with PRAU for the health run is in line with our commitment to promote better and healthy living. We have a fitness program where our staff get to engage in aerobics session every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30pm. The Bank also sponsors sports activities in various communities such as the Masaza Cup organized by Buganda Kingdom, Seals Swim Club competition and National Rally Championship where we support Ronald Ssebuguzi. Our Bank recently contributed Shs.155 million towards the annual Rotary Cancer Run, whose aim is to reduce cancer prevalence in the country. Physical fitness is a good start to fighting non-communicable diseases such as cancer which have been on the rise lately” said Mr. Fabian Kasi.

The PRAU Health Run will start off at Lugogo Indoor Stadium at 5.30pm. Warm up and stretching drills will be conducted before the official run commences at 6.00pm. Entrance is free.

Fabian Kasi Profile

Mr. Fabian Kasi is the Managing Director of Centenary Bank Uganda. He joined Centenary Bank in August 2010 and over time has seen the bank become one of the most profitable banks in Uganda, with the biggest number of customers and the second largest branch network countrywide. One of the bank’s strength is in provision of financial services especially microfinance to the unbanked. Mr. Kasi has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Accounting from Makerere University and an MBA from the University of Newcastle, Australia. He is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants of the United Kingdom and a member of the Certified Public Accountants of Uganda. He sits on a number of Boards that include among others, Capital Markets Authority, PAX Insurance and BAT.

Public Relations has a role to play in the development of every sector and business says Frank K Tumwebaze as he praises PRAU

The Minister for ICT and National Guidance who also doubles as Kibale East MP Hon. Frank Kagyigyi Tumwebaze has praised the work of Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU). He said PR has its right professional role to play in the development of every sector and business.

He said working together with the government and PRAU leadership, he will spear head a bill that will give PRAU & the PR profession statutory recognition.

The minister said this during the 7^th RAU Excellence Awards and Gala Dinner held at Kampala Sheraton Hotel last weekend.

In a special mention, he thanked Cynthia Mpanga, President of PRAU for the inviting him and for organising a fabulous event.

“Thank you PRAU leadership and members for inviting me to officiate at your 7^th Excellence awards. We had good time and indeed PR has its right professional role to play in the development of every sector and business. PRAU to host Professional Training Boot Camp for PR Practitioners

Second PRAU Boot Camp Launched Amidst Calls for Professional Qualifications

Uganda’s top public relations practitioners are set to undergo a professional capacity building upgrade at the end of this month in a residential training activity dubbed ‘PRAU BOOT CAMP’.

Organized by the Public Relations Association of Uganda, the second PRAU BOOT CAMP, scheduled for Thursday 29th June to Saturday 1st July 2017, will be held at the Sanctum Hotel in Entebbe. The first one was held in 2015.

“The PRAU BOOT CAMP is an exciting one-of-a-kind professional development training for public relations practitioners in Uganda to relearn the basics and essentials of the trade in order to scale their careers and businesses,” Cynthia Mpanga, the President of PRAU said.

The objectives of the PRAU BOOT CAMP are: Professional Development; Leadership Development; Knowledge & Skills building; Connecting members of PRAU and finally, Enhancing Collaboration & Driving Personal Growth.

“Some of the topics that will be tackled at the PRAU Boot CAMP include: Thriving In A World of Digital Media; The Art of Public Relations Strategy; Planning & Execution; Internal & External Stakeholder Management and How to Prepare & Survive a PR Crisis” said Mpanga.

Sheila Kangwagye, the PRAU Secretary General, highlighted the need for professional development by public relations practitioners: “This PRAU BOOT CAMP helps us to learn in a professional setting how to continuously ascribe to global standards and keep up to date with the latest trends in the PR industry, something many employers have been asking us to do.”

The trainers at the PRAU BOOT CAMP are drawn from locally and regionally experienced and recognized PR and communications professionals. Amongst them is one of the regional representatives of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Ann Gichuhi from Makini College in Nairobi, Kenya who will make a special presentation on the growing need for professional accreditation by the globally recognized PR body.

“The CIPR advances professionalism in public relations by making its members accountable to their employers and the public through a code of conduct and searchable public register, setting standards through training, qualifications, awards and the production of best practice and skills guidance, facilitating Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and awarding Chartered Public Relations Practitioner status”, said Ann Gichuhi, senior communication consultant with Makini College and CIPR lead in Kenya.

The PRAU Patron, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, Cabinet Minister of ICT and National Guidance in the Government of Uganda, is expected to officially open the PRAU BOOT CAMP on Thursday 29^th June at The Sanctum Hotel Entebbe.
