    NWSC to improve on the livelihood of the people of Adjumani

    National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), through the Government of Uganda has received financing from the World Bank under the Integrated Water Management and Development Project (IWMDP) and intends to apply part of the proceeds toward payments under contract for construction of Adjumani Water Supply and Sanitation Project.

    Project Scope.
    a) A raw water intake of capacity 12,000m3/day on River Nile at Arra West Village, off Adjumani-Laropi Ferry road in Adjumani District.

    b) Raw Water Pump station with Vertical Turbine Pumps; 1 duty and 1 Standby (discharge 70.66lps against 136m head) at the raw water Intake.

    c) 8.8km DN-300mm Ductile Iron Class 40 Raw water transmission pipeline from the raw water intake to the Water treatment plant.

    d) Water treatment plant of capacity 4,000m3/day expandable to 8,000m3/day at Mijale village on Adjumani-Laropi Ferry road.

    e) Treated Water Pump station with Vertical Turbine Pumps; 1 Duty and 1 Standby (discharge 66.49lps against 176m head) at the water treatment plant.

    f) 10.0km DN300mm Ductile Iron Class 40 treated water transmission pipeline from the treatment plant to the elevated steel reservoir in Adjumani town council.

    g) Elevated Hot dipped galvanized Iron pressed steel reservoirs of capacity 655m3 in Adjumani town council.

    h) 3km of 140-315mmOD uPVC PN10 distribution pipeline from the elevated steel reservoir in Adjumani town council to the existing network.

    i) 30Km of 110-250mmOD uPVC PN10 gravity feeder distribution mains from the elevated steel reservoir in Adjumani town council to existing reservoirs in Pakele town council and Ciforo township and to a new reservoir in Dzaipi township.

    j) Elevated Hot dipped galvanized Iron pressed steel reservoirs of capacity 130m3 in Dzaipi township.

    k) Supply, installation and commissioning of borehole pumps; 86.40 m3/hr with 117m head at Pagirinya refugee settlement, 64.8 m3/hr with 111m head at Olua refugee settlement, and 28.8 m3/hr with 93m head at Nyumanzi refugee settlement.

    l) 12km of DN100-150 Ductile Iron Class 40 pumping mains from the boreholes to elevated steel reservoirs.

    m) Elevated Hot dipped galvanized Iron pressed steel reservoirs of capacities 110m3 at Pagirinya refugee settlement, 200m3 at Olua refugee settlement and 60m3 at Nyumanzi refugee settlement.

    n) 19Km of 110-200mmOD uPVC PN10 borehole water distribution network.

    o) 07 sanitation blocks at public places and institutions in Adjumani and Pakele Town Councils, Dzaipi and Ciforo townships.

    p) A Faecal Sludge treatment plant of capacity 3.6m3/day at Amelo in Adjumani Town council.

    The Management of National Water and Sewerage Corporation wishes to inform its valued customers and the general public that there will be interruptions in water supply tomorrow Tuesday 13th December, 2022 from 7am to 6pm

    This is to allow Contractor Sogea Satom handle emergency works at the plant intake pumping station.

    Subsequently, water supply to Mukono, Seeta, Parts of Namugongo, Kyaliwajjala, Kira, Nsasa, Bulindo and the surrounding areas, Sonde, parts of Mutungo, Bukoto, Naguru, Ntinda and the surrounding areas will be affected by the works.

    Customers are therefore advised to store water and use it sparingly as it takes time for the system to stabilize after a total plant shutdown.

    All inconveniences are highly regretted.

    National Water & Sewerage Corporation Rolls out E-Bills

    In order to serve her customers better National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is phasing out physical bills and has introduced electronic-billing.

    The exercise is being piloted in a select NWSC service areas in Kampala.

    The electronic billing brings ease and convenience to the customer in accessing, receiving and managing their water and sewerage bills, account statements and much more.

    You can now receive your bill by SMS on your phone, email address, check it on the NWSC website.

    How it works:
    It is very simple and convenient.
    You will receive an sms message showing units consumed and your outstanding bill at the end of the month.

    Attached to the sms message is a link, which you can click and view your detailed water bill. This works for both analog and smart phones.

    NWSC requests her customers to update their contact details including an active phone number and email address to enable us serve you better.

    Our service centers are open for those who may wish to visit. Standard Operating Procedures issued by Ministry of Health apply.

    SPENAH BEACH SAGA: Ex entebbe mayor, chairman NRM Entebbe, Board member Wakiso Land Board on the spot over controversial land

    New details have emerged about the Spenah BEACH saga with many questioning how the former Entebbe mayor, chairman NRM Entebbe, Board member Wakiso Land Board Stephen Kabuye who claims ownership, can have control over lake victoria.

    On Friday morning, photos emerged online appearing to show soldiers trying calm down the situation where thugs were vandalising Spenah Entertainment Limited properties and items. This website has learnt that, Mr John Asiimwe didn’t fight back, but reported the matter to aviation police.

    Available information now reveals that court had ordered for arbitration between Spenah Entertainment Limited (owned by Asiimwe who was renting the place), and Kabuye chairman NRM Entebbe, Board member Wakiso Land Board the said property owner.

    It adds that Kabuye chairman NRM Entebbe, Board member Wakiso Land Board ignored all these and went ahead with Friday’s action.

    Documents have also emerged showing how the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) had given SEL permission to operate.

    “Court ordered arbitration between the two parties, but Kabuuye, chairman NRM Entebbe, Board member Wakiso Land Board ignored it…instead resorted to using Uganda police. Spenah employees and staff did not take law into their hands, instead they reported the case to police and other responsible Gorverment organs,” a source said.

    BACKGROUND.
    As information keeps on emerging, Asiimwe and his company Spenah Entertainment ltd suspended their obligations under the tenancy agreement finding out that they had been corned by Mr Kabuye chairman NRM Entebbe, Board member Wakiso Land Board. This resulted after the calamity where lake Victoria water levels increased and destroyed the Spenah Entertainment property and business. Upon suspension of the obligations of both parties to the tenancy agreement due to a force majuere clause, a question of ownership arose. Hence causing conflicts between two parties.

    As of now, the government has not come out to clarify on how one can own a land title of a lake shore.
    And how any one can evict someone with a NEMA permit with town council operations permit, is it because of his positions?

    This website has gotten information that Mr Kabuye sold the claimed land to Mr Jafar and Jafar is using Eriya Mubiru Kabenge who claims to be connected to every Uganda General to evict NEMA permit holders.

    Water Supply interruption in Kampala

    The Management of National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) – Kampala water wishes to inform its valued customers and the general public that there will be interruptions in water supply today Tuesday, 27th 2022.

    This is to allow our engineers undertake protection works along the DN700mm bulk water transmission main across Nakivubo channel, near Mukwano round about.

    The precautionary works are designed to strengthen the anchorages of the line, it’s structure integrity and subsequently prevent any failures that might arise as a result of overwhelming runoffs during this wet season.

    Affected areas include
    Nakasero, Mukwano road, parts of city center, Kololo, Wandegeya, Mulago, areas along Gayaza road, Kalerwe, Bwaise, Nabweru, Kawempe, Mbogo, Ttula, Buziga, Gaba road, Munyonyo, Konge and the surrounding areas.

    Expected completion time is 11:00pm

    The Management of National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) wishes to inform its valued customers and the general public that there will be interruptions in water supply tomorrow Tuesday 6th September, 2022 from 7am to 6pm.

    This is to allow it’s engineers undertake general maintenance of water treatment units, electro-mechanical systems and inspection of underwater systems.

    Subsequently, water supply to Mukono, Mbalala, Seeta, Sonde, Naguru, Bukoto, Ntinda, Naalya, Kisaasi and the surrounding areas, Namuwongo, Kiira, Kyaliwajjala, parts of Butabika, Namanve, parts of Kasangati, Najjera, Gayaza, Kasangati and the surrounding areas, Matugga, Kabaga, Jjokolera and the surrounding areas will be closed off.

    Customers are therefore advised to store water and use it sparingly as it takes time for the system to stabilize after a total plant shutdown.

    MPs impressed by the UGX 240m litres-per-day Katosi Water Project, urge NWSC to be the benchmark of excellence for other Government projects

    The Parliamentary Committee on The National Economy yesterday took to the Eastern side of greater Kampala to tour the Katosi water project.

    The expedition started at the Namugongo booster station which pumps water to Naguru reservoir through a 10 km, DN 700 ductile iron clear water pumping main.

    Eng Johnson Amayo, the DMD Technical services, who was flanked my Eng. Alex Gisagara (Snr. Director Engineering services)*, took the MPs through the dynamics of how the system operates to ensure customers get proper supply of clean water.

    The law Makers were then guided to the Reinforced concrete water storage reservoir at Sonde with a capacity of *15 million* liters, where more insights were provided to the MPs. More facilities were toured which comprised of the Nsumba tanks and ultimately the Katosi main water production project.

    During this visit of Katosi Drinking Water Treatment Plant, the MPs defined the project as Monumental achievement. In a Question and Answer session held at the Katosi facility, several Mps had nothing but praises for NWSC and its commitment to “Water for All” however some had concerns that the corporation was not doing enough to cater for the rest of the country.

    They cited that NWSC is only fully operational in Kampala. Conversely though, Eng. Amayo his submission put this notion to bed by clearly outlining NWSC’s operations and projects all over the country. He put emphasis on the fact that National Water operates where the minister gazettes it to function.

    He also fully explained the initiatives that the corporation has to ensure that water supply is boosted while protecting the environment. *“We are in coincidence with the forestry officials to restore the forest cover around Katosi so as to maintain the natural settings around the water plant,” he added.

    Eng. Amayo in closing urged Parliament to continue approving budgets and monies meant for the escalation of water supply since Ugandans still need clean water in order to develop either through Industrialization, or domestic livelihood. He commended Government of Uganda for their commitment to sustainable development of the pearl of Uganda.

    In all, The MPs were gratified that the project was completed on time and within cost as per financing commitments that Parliament agreed during the loan approval process in 2011 and 2019. *“This is a commendable project that Ugandans should be proud of. NWSC has showed that government projects can actually be executed in a timely, and competent manner. Other government utilities should seek for guidance from National water and seek ways on how take on projects and finish them without blemishes” said Committee Chairperson Hon. Ikojo John Bosco, also Bukedea County MP.

    The 240 million litre per day capacity plant, was constructed to add more water to the Kampala Metropolitan Service Area. Whereas the intake can produce 240 million liters per day, the current capacity is 160 million liters per day. The additional 80 million liters will be added when demand increases.

    The project was jointly funded by Development Partners *(EIB, AFD, KFW, EU -ITF)*, and counterpart funding from the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment and NWSC.

    Katosi will serve over 7.5 million people in Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso upto 2040. The project also has a component to supply water to Katosi, Lugazi town and the surrounding areas.

    Main Project Components of the Katosi Drinking Water Treatment Plant

    • 500m of DN1500 Off-shore Water Abstraction Pipeline into Lake Victoria (laid on the lake bed at a depth of 11m)

    • Intake Structure and Raw Water Pump station on the shore of Lake Victoria

    • Drinking Water Treatment Plant (DWTP) & Drinking Water Pumping Station (80,000m3/d + 80,000m3/d)

    • Ductile Iron Pumping Transmission Main (10km, DN1400)

    • Four (04) No. Storage Tanks at Nsumba hill, each with a capacity of 10,000m3

    • 33kV Power line extension from the new Mukono Industrial Estate Substation to the Katosi DWTP (over 40km)

    • Administration Office Block, Laboratory, Workshop, Staff Houses

    • Installation of SCADA and automation of the Plant operations

    *Katosi-Kampala Transmission Mains

    • 39km of DN 1400 ductile iron clear water transmission main from Nsumba reservoir to Namugongo

    • 2.3 km of DN 500/600 to existing reservoirs at Mukono and Seeta

    • Reinforced concrete water storage reservoir of capacity 15,000 m3 at Sonde

    •Booster station at Namugongo with two duty and one standby water pumps

    •10 km of DN 700 ductile iron clear water pumping main, from Namugongo booster station to the existing Naguru reservoir.
    •Staff houses at Sonde reservoir site and Namugongo booster station site.
    •Installation of SCADA system.

    Government through NWSC signs 5 contracts to boost water supply in Kyankwanzi, Bushenyi, Kalungu, Gulu and Isingiro districts

    Kampala: National water and sewerage Corporation has signed 5 WATSAN flagship projects to boost water supply for the districts of Gulu, Kyankwanzi, Kalungu, Bushenyi and Isingiro.

    As part of its continuous mandate, National Water and Sewerage Corporation continues to implement a wide range of Water and sanitation (WATSAN) infrastructure development projects within its 263 towns of operation across the country.

    The company recently secured market financing towards implementation of a number of WATSAN flagship projects.

    The corporation is also implementing major projects funded by the Government of Uganda with financial support from development partners.

    The project implementation is to ensure provision of safe water for human consumption and water for economic development focused on eradicating poverty.
    This is also in line with the government efforts deliberately aimed at fostering progress towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

    With the stewardship of the Minister of State for Water and Environment Hon. Aisha Sekindi and in witness of several district leaders from the beneficiary towns and representatives of development partners, contractors and consultants, today NWSC flags off project works with the signing of construction works contracts for the following projects;
    1. Kyankwanzi Water Supply Project funded by NWSC through Market Financing
    2. Bushenyi Water Supplying Augementation project funded by NWSC through Market Financing.
    3. Kalungu Water Supply Project Funded by NWSC through Market Financing.
    4. Karuma- Gulu water transmission main construction project funded by G.O.U with credit facility from the World Bank
    5. Kagera Water Supply System Construction project funded by G.O.U with credit facility from the French Development Agency.

    Speaking at the Signing ceremony, the Minister of State for Water, Hon Aisha Sekindi said that the projects are timely, and will help improve acesss to safe water in the 5 districts, especially those under the cattle corridor.

    She underscored the GOU’s commitment towards improved water and sanitation infrastructure across Uganda in line with NDPIII.

    Hon Sekindi commended NWSC for their commitment towards water for everyone acrosss the country and encouraged them to equally serve rural areas in the 5 districts.

    She urged water users to pay bills on time which subsequently helps NWSC to extend its services to more Ugandans.

    “In other areas people pay between Ushs 1000- 2000. The Ministry of Water and Environment in partnership with NWSC and other development partners are working to ensure the provision of affordable clean and safe water to all Ugandans.” She added.

    The NWSC Board Chair Eng. Dr. Prof Badru. M. Kiggundu shared that the ceremony was a milestone in line with the GOU’s mandate, to improve the water and sanitation infrastructure, as one of the major contributors to sustainable well being of the people of Uganda.

    He thanked the GoU, Parliament of Uganda, Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development and other Development Partners who successfully secured financing for the projects.

    He tasked the contractor to complete the project within time and cost.

    NWSC Managing Director Dr. Eng Silver Mugisha said that NWSC is innovating vast engineering solutions to improve lives of the people of Uganda through the provision of clean safe water, and added that all the above projects were internally designed by NWSC engineers.

    According to Eng Mugisha, water and environment protection are tandem as such the utility has rolled out environmental protection initiatives aimed at conserving the environment.

    “NWSC is focused on institutional sustainability while looking at the overall business growth.
    Subsequently, the utility has set a target to achieve the following by 2025.
    •Increase assets from 3.9trillion to 6 trillion.
    • Increase Connections from 900,000 to 1.2million connections
    •Serve over 25million Ugandans up from the current 18million people being served now.
    • Improve customer satisfaction from the current 86% to 90%
    • Improve Staff Satisfaction index from 78% to 90% among others.

    Eng Mugisha added that the projects will be implemented under strong fundamentals that include, project cost control-within cost and time, initiatives to protect the environment and innovative project funding initiatives.

    He appreciated the support from Ministries; Water and Environment, Finance, Planning and Economic, Uganda Development Bank among others.

    Speaking on behalf of other contractors, Sogea Satom Country Director Jean- Luc Sion highlighted the recent project progress in Uganda i.e the recently completed Katosi Water works, Upgrade of Ggaba water works and committed to deliver the Kagera Water Supply System on time and within cost.

    Following yesterday’s extreme weather event in Mbale City, our rescue teams are on course with restoration works of Manafwa pumping main restoration works.

    Pipeline alignment, welding/jointing shall be completed tonight.

    We envision pumping to resume tomorrow on completion of gabion and provisional Anchorage works.

    Emergency team 2 is working to restore the intake transmission main at River Nabuyonga while

    Team 3 is working on River Nabijjo intake and Raw water transmission line.

    The teams are determined to have all water treatment plants restored in the shortest time possible. #waterman.

    A National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) member of staff at Nakulabye branch has been praised for dedication to work.

    The staff only identified as Priscillah who works NWSC Nakulabye Service Office is one staff member who exercises total professionalism when executing her duties.

    Customers and close work mates we talked to told that she is too dedicated at her work.

    She is quick, professional and always welcoming to every customer irrespective of the state they come in.

    And with staff like her, NWSC has a bright future.

    With staff like Priscillah in all NWSC service centers, we are sure NWSC Managing Director Eng. Silver Mugisha who himself is a hard working one will deliver very positive results.
