    CNOOC Uganda hands awards to Best Performing 2018 students at PLE, UCE and UACE levels in Hoima District

    Kikuube, Uganda: CNOOC Uganda, an oil and gas company has today recognized and awarded one hundred and twenty (120) best Performing Hoima students at PLE, UCE and UACE level under its Corporate Social Responsibility Program code-named “CNOOC Best Performer’s Award”.

    The CNOOC Best Performers Award was inaugurated in 2012, with an aim of encouraging better performance to the students in Hoima District. To date, the Program has rewarded 420 students as follows (in 2013-60 were rewarded in 2014, 90 were rewarded annually in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and this year, 2019, 120 more students will be rewarded which will bring the cumulative total of BPA beneficiaries to 540 students at PLE, UCE and UACE levels.

    Awarding the students with prize money and certificates is a move to motivate them particularly those below and getting to the candidate classes and this indirectly contributes to improved performance of students in Hoima District in regard to national standings. Hoima district is currently experiencing rapid development and CNOOC Uganda believes that the better the youth are prepared and the education sector transformed, the more the residents shall benefit from the industry.

    A total of 8,000 US Dollars an equivalent of around UGX 30,000,000/= (Thirty Million Uganda Shillings) has been awarded to the best performing students this year, 2019. These students were selected by the office of the District Education Officer, Hoima and Kikuube Districts based on the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) results.

    CNOOC Uganda shall continue awarding the best performers to reaffirm its willingness to be good neighbors with communities in the area of operation and to achieve a win-win situation with its stakeholders.

    The ceremony was presided over by the Minister of State for Bunyoro Affairs, Hon. Ernest Kiiza Apuuli, as a Chief Guest who commended CNOOC Uganda your unwavering support to the communities especially in the area of operation. He also congratulated the award winners along with their parents and teachers and urged the students to continue working hard at their next level of education and always consider giving back to the community so that those who come after them can receive the same support.

    Sport: The CNOOC Bunyoro Amasaza Cup kicks off

    CNOOC Uganda Limited, an oil and gas company, on Friday November 30th 2018 launched the 2018 Bunyoro Amasaza Cup. This marks seven years of the oil company’s support towards the tournament which attracts various counties in Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom.

    The month-long tournament which commenced on Friday will attract seven districts in the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom including Kiryandongo, Bulliisa, Hoima, Masindi and Kibaale, Hoima and Kikuube.

    The opening match was graced by His Royal Majesty the King of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom; Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru in Bullisa district.

    “CNOOC Uganda is honored to be part of the Amasaza Cup for the seventh year. As we carry out our core activities in the Bunyoro region, it is important for us to give back to the residents in the area as a sign of appreciation for their support to our Company and employees,” Said Aminah Bukenya the Senior Public Relations Supervisor.

    “When we began operations in Bunyoro, we made a conscious commitment to be part of all-round growth in our area of operation. And over the years, we have seen this commitment come to life through various local programs.” Said, Mr. Cui Yujun, CNOOC Vice President in charge of engineering.

    “Sponsoring the Bunyoro Amasaza Cup for the seventh year is a demonstration of CNOOC Uganda’s dedication to the growth of sport in this region. Last year, the tournament was played across all sub counties in Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom and attracted 74 teams. This year, we hope for even greater participation and competitiveness among the counties.”

    “On behalf of the people of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, I would like to thank the management of CNOOC Uganda for their continued contributions to this region. The Amasaza Cup tournament has continued to promote unity among the Banyoro and this has, in turn, further strengthened our kingdom cultures,” commented His Royal Majesty the King of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom; Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru.

    “We are happy with CNOOC’s support which has boosted talent and sports in Bunyoro Kingdom. We always look forward to the CNOOC Amasaza Cup tournament.” said Tumusiime Vincent, a player from Buyaga East, Kagadi District.

    Hoima Municipality edged Kigorobya 1- 0 in the opening match that was held at Sir Tito Winyi.

To date the Program has rewarded 330 students as follows (in 2013-60 were rewarded, in 2014 -90 were rewarded, and in 2015, 90 were rewarded, in 2016, in 2017-90 were awarded) and an addition of 90 more students will be rewarded, this year-2018 which will bring the cumulative total of BPA beneficiaries to 420 students at PLE, UCE and UACE levels.

    These students were selected by the office of the District Education Officer, Hoima District based on the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) results with 20 per cent selected from the Hoima Municipality schools and 80 per cent selected from the rest of the district.

    CNOOC Uganda shall continue awarding the best performers to reaffirm its willingness to be good neighbors with communities in the areas of operation and to achieve a win-win situation with its stakeholders.

    The ceremony was presided over by the District Chairperson, Kadiri Kirungi as a Chief Guest who commended CNOOC Uganda for supporting the education sector in line with Government’s development plans. He also congratulated the award winners along with their parents and teachers and urged the students to continue working hard at their next level of education and always consider giving back to the community so that those who come after them can receive the same support.
