    Coca-Cola Uganda Launches Coke Studio Africa 2017

    Ugandan artists share studio experience with guests

    Influencers, journalists and well-wishers were treated to a magical evening of free drinks, dinner and entertainment during the event to officially launch the 5th consecutive season of Coca-Cola’s flagship show Coke Studio.

    Hosted at Fame Bar and Lounge Acacia Avenue in Kololo, the event was also attended by two of Uganda’s Coke Studio representatives – Bebe Cool and Lydia Jasmine as well as representatives from Century Bottling Company Limited, the official bottler and distributor of Coca-Cola products in Uganda.

    Titled Coke Studio Africa 2017, this season marks the first time that the beverage giant has merged Coke Studio Africa and Coke Studio South Africa into one, bigger and better show, consequently increasing the number of participating countries to 16, up from 11 in previous edition.

    Mr. Rodney Nzioka, the Coca-Cola Uganda Brand manager thanked the guests for showing up in large numbers and for their continued support over the years.

    “As you all know, fusing the diverse musical influences in Africa while providing a platform for renowned as well as upcoming and less mainstream artists to collaborate musically is the backbone of Coke Studio,” he said.

    “Coke Studio Africa is Coca-Cola’s pledge to the development and support of both the African and Ugandan music industry. Through productions such as Coca-Cola Pop Stars, Coca-Cola Real Stars and Coca-Cola Rated Next, we have played an active role in harnessing the talent in our country,” Nzioka added.

    During the launch event, Coke Studio representatives Lydia Jasmine and Bebe Cool were given an opportunity to share their experiences in the studio and the impact this show has had on their personalities and music careers. Guests were also given the opportunity to watch the first episode of the Coke Studio Africa 2017 season that officially airs on Saturday 9th September 2017.

    Actress Esther Whitney Komweru who acted in the drama series Deception as Evelyn has scooped a judge slot at the fashion show. The show is slated for 30th September 2017 at Club Amnesia.

    Esther was chosen as the official judge alongside NBS TV presenter Doreen Komuhangi and Makeup artist Fyona Kirabo who also presents at Bukedde TV. The three judges will be choosing one best model to represent Uganda in Nigeria. Each African country will come up with their finest.

    “I am excited to have chosen as one of the judges to choose the Uganda’s finest model,” Esther said.

    Fyona and Doreen said they are also honoured to be among the official judges.

She’s good as a radio presenter (this we can all agree) or maybe some TV show presenter, but not a news anchor!!! And I’m not hating, I just love my TV good. Yes she makes it beautiful by the way.     Last weekend, thousands of party goers from all over the world flocked the source of the Nile in Jinja for the third edition of the Nyege Nyege international music festival.

    The three days event that took place at Nile discovery beach, Jinja was an explosion of culture, fashion, music and art from various places across the globe.

    The festival opened on Thursday morning for the campers with a pre-party at night. The daytime atmosphere was relaxed as people enjoyed watching live music and chilling out, drinking Uganda Waragi cocktails while the evenings were epic as people partied until the wee hours of the morning as they danced from one stage to the other.

    The festival had three stages, the Bell Lager stage, the techno and electronic dance stage and one for the reggae lovers.  There were performances from over 190 artists from 30 African countries .The Bell Lager stage, which was the main stage, not only fed its audience with nonstop music and performances for 72 hours but also gave away free Bell Lager beers for the festival goers.

    Some of the notable perfumers included Ugandan dancehall star Maro, Apio Moro, Byg Ben Sukuya, Jackie Akello, Kongoloko, Aka Dope band among others.

    The festival also offered several food stalls, bars, lounges, fashion stalls, art exhibitions, chill out areas, swimming, and boat rides.

    The long awaited Miss Pearl of Africa regional contest kicked off last weekend. Jinja Town played host and witness to the start of the regional pageants.

    By 6:00pm, the red carpet and back drop erected at the entrance of Jinja Town Hall were beaming with people. Camera flash lights clouded the atmosphere. Revelers sauntered in dressed to the nines. Because they heard that tonight would be a show like no other, everyone tried to make the mark. Some did impress with their tuxedos and elegant garb while others were epic fails. Nonetheless, they had all come to be a part of a game changer in the pageantry business. They had come to be wowed and wowed they were.

    At around 7:00pm, the MC’s of the night, renowned comedian Emmah Napoleone and Shadia Bahati took center stage. Bahati with the sassy references and Emmah with the wild witticisms. He couldn’t stop, that chap. He immediately outshone his female counterpart. Cracking joke after joke, and consequently, setting pace and clearing the fog of boredom that had engulfed the guests.

    Shortly into 8:00pm, the Miss Pearl of Africa Busoga contestants hit the run way. They showcased panoply of attires. But two ‘wears’ caught the eyes of the audience. The Bikini and Creative wears. Contestants Jemimah Mbekeka, Evelyn Mugisha, Lisa and Kassana Gorret had entertained. It looked like the pretty Gorret Kasana would take it. And at some point, if it were the crowd that decided, the chubby and full-of-life plus size model, Evelyn Mugisha would be crowned. Yvonne Grande evoked the biggest applause when she strutted the runway with a bare chest, covered in nothing but sim sim. The revelers screamed their voices hoarse. She was as daring as winners come. But it was going to take more than a dare devil to win this one. The judges, Olivia Nambuya alias Mama Oli, Michael Muramuzi and Mercy had different plans. They were looking for a beauty queen, not a slay queen. So they had to pass on her. At the end of the night, Yvone was crowned Miss Congeniality, while Evelyne Mugisha scooped the Miss Personality Crown.

    After those announcements, legendary vocalist and musician, Sylvia Kyansuti stepped onto stage. She did a number of songs, much to the crowd’s excitement. Before the band hit the stage, and a traditional dance group entertained. At 10:00pm, the judges had made their decision. And it was that the curvaceous Sharifah Namugabi was the 2nd runner up, while Sarah Tibaleka the 1st runner up, and the Oh-so-pretty and graceful Georgina Nabuloli was Miss Pearl Jinja/Busoga. Contest ended shortly after their crowning.
