Mr. Seth Murari who recently contested in NRM primaries for the post of Mayor Mbarara City has released his next plan of action ahead of 2026 and has ruled out contesting as an independent candidate for the same seat.
Following the conclusion of the party primaries, Mr. Seth raised legitimate concerns regarding electoral irregularities and lodged a petition before the NRM Elections Dispute Tribunal. He said up to date, he is still waiting for a formal communication from the tribunal on the matter.
Despite this, and after deep consultation and reflection, Mr. Murari has decided that he will not stand as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections. He said this decision is born out of his unwavering loyalty to the NRM,
a party that has been the foundation of stability, peace, and progress for our nation.

Although he may not be on the ballot next year, Mr Seth has committed to the service of the people of Mbarara City. He says his vision for empowering communities, uplifting the youth and women, supporting local entrepreneurs, advocating for improved service delivery will continue with or without the mandate. He also called on the public to rally behind President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as he seeks for another term in 2026.
Below is his full statement on the matter;

“Fellow citizens of Mbarara City, members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), friends, and supporters, i wish to convey my sincere appreciation to all those who stood with me during my recent candidature for the Mbarara City mayoral seat under the NRM flag. Your prayers, advice, encouragement, resources, and tireless efforts in mobilization are a testimony of the strong bond we share in our struggle for a better Mbarara City and Uganda at large.
Following the conclusion of the party primaries, I raised legitimate concerns regarding electoral irregularities and lodged a petition before the NRM Elections Tribunal. To date, we still await a formal communication from the tribunal on the matter. Despite this, and after deep consultation and reflection, I have decided that I will not stand as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections. This decision is born out of my unwavering loyalty to the NRM, a party that has been the foundation of stability, peace, and progress for our nation. I strongly believe that personal ambition should never be placed above the unity of a movement. I therefore call upon all those who have walked this journey with me to channel the same energy and dedication towards mobilizing and rallying overwhelming support for our Party Chairman and President, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, as he seeks the mandate of Ugandans once again in the 2026 presidential elections. His visionary leadership continues to safeguard our future and guarantee the protection of gains realized by our nation over the years.
While I may not be on the ballot, I remain fully committed to the service of the people of Mbarara City. My vision for empowering communities, uplifting the youth and women, supporting local entrepreneurs, advocating for improved service delivery, and promoting unity among our people will not end with the elections. I pledge to continue these initiatives at the grassroots level, working hand in hand with community leaders, the business sector, and civil society, so that together we build a city that is inclusive, innovative, and prosperous.
Leadership is not confined to holding a political office-it is about consistent action, sacrifice, and service to others. To this end, I assure you that my door will remain open, my heart will remain committed, and my hands will remain ready to serve. Together, we can continue to transform lives, even as we strengthen our support for the NRM and its leadership.
I once again thank you all for believing in me, and I humbly ask you to remain focused and united as we march towards 2026 with renewed purpose. For God and My Country,
Mr. Seth Murari
Kafunjo-Nyarubanga
Mbarara City North Constituency
TAKING ACTIONS, ACHIEVING RESULTS,”.
