Your day, well spent: Spotify brings audiobooks to Uganda

From the taxi ride through Kampala traffic to the late-night wind-down, Audiobooks+ adds 15 hours of stories a month, about 30 minutes a day, for UGX 14,500, in the app Ugandans already use for music

Kampala: A Kampala day keeps moving. There’s the early start, the taxi through the morning jam, a lunch break that’s over too soon and, finally, a little quiet before bed. Starting today, Spotify is rolling out audiobooks in Uganda, bringing more than 350,000 titles into the app listeners already open every day for music.

Spotify Free and Premium users in Uganda can now add Audiobooks+, a monthly add-on with 15 hours of listening for UGX 14,500. That’s about 30 minutes of stories a day, and only the time you actually spend listening counts. The launch is part of Spotify’s expansion of audiobooks from 22 markets to more than 180 by the end of 2026, continuing its mission of bringing more books to more people.

For Spotify, a good day isn’t measured by how long people spend in an app, but by whether that time feels well spent: intentional, joyful and connected to the culture they love. Audiobooks fit into moments listeners already have, turning a commute, a workout or a quiet evening into time with a great story.

“Books change how we see the world, and the people in it. For a lot of people, audiobooks are how they find their way back to reading, on the commute, on a walk, or at the end of a long day. Bringing audiobooks to more than 180 markets means millions more people can discover that, and authors and publishers can reach readers they’ve never been able to reach before,” said Owen Smith, VP of Audiobooks, Spotify.

Value that fits your day
15 hours a month, about 30 minutes a day: Audiobooks+ costs UGX 14,500 a month as a recurring add-on for Spotify Free and Premium users.

Only listening time counts: Browsing or downloading a book doesn’t use your hours, and they reset every billing cycle.

More when you want it: Add a 10-hour top-up for UGX 17,500, or buy an individual title to keep.

Over 350,000 titles from day one: From bestselling fiction and memoir to business and self-development. [Insert 3–5 titles cleared for comms in Uganda, prioritising African authors]

More Ugandan stories, heard around the world
Spotify believes authors should find the largest possible audience, which is why all of its audiobook partnerships are non-exclusive. Through Spotify for Authors, Ugandan publishers and self-published authors can upload their audiobooks and reach listeners in more than 180 markets, with insights into who is listening. The catalogue in Uganda will keep growing as new partners join and local authors upload their work.
