Kawempe Division Youth Leaders Champion Sensitization Campaign on Voter’s Register update & upcoming Youth Elections

For the past two weeks, the youth leaders of Kawempe Division under the National Unity Platform (NUP), have been actively engaging communities in a sensitization campaign. The focus has been to raise awareness about the ongoing National Voter’s Register Update exercise and preparing the youth for the forthcoming Youth Elections set for mid-2025.

National Voter’s Register Update: Your Voice Matters

The Voter’s Register Update exercise, which began on 20th January and will run until 10th February 2025, is a crucial activity for all Ugandan citizens. This exercise allows eligible voters to check their names in the register, update their details, and change their voting polling stations if necessary. Youth leaders in Kawempe Division have so far visited over 20 zones across 5 parishes, encouraging residents, particularly the youth, to ensure their participation in this process. Ensuring that one’s name is correctly recorded in the register is the first step to exercising the right to vote and influencing leadership at all levels.

Youth Elections 2025: A Call to Action

With the youth elections slated for mid-2025, the campaign has also been focused on sensitizing young people about their critical role in shaping the future. The youth structures are an integral part of community leadership, starting at the village level. Each zone will elect nine representatives, comprising the Youth Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Publicity Secretary, and representatives for Education, Health, Sports, and Environment.

These positions form the building blocks of the village youth committees, which play a pivotal role in advocating for youth issues, fostering community development, and creating opportunities for young people to engage in decision-making processes. The elected leaders will work their way up the hierarchy, eventually influencing leadership at the parish, division, and district levels.

Empowering the Youth: Now Is Our Time

This sensitization campaign is not only about raising awareness but also about empowering the youth to take action. By participating in these elections, young people can seize the opportunity to lead, represent their peers, and address the challenges facing their communities.

The NUP youth leaders of Kawempe Division are committed to ensuring that every young person is informed, involved, and inspired to participate. As we continue to reach more zones and parishes, the message is clear: now is the time for the youth to step up and take charge of their future.

For any inquiries or further details on the ongoing Voter’s Register Update or the Youth Elections, reach out to your local youth leaders or visit your parish headquarters. Let’s build a brighter tomorrow together!
