Winnie Byanyima’s nephew arrested over shoot and kill incident

Police have arrested Winnie Byanyima’s nephew, Mathew Kanyamunyu over Saturday’s shooting at Game Store, Lugogo which led to the death of Akena Kenneth Watmon CDO from Aruu North County Pader District.

Mathew Kanyamunyu who is the CEO Quantum Express Logistics has been detained at Jinja Road Police Station to help Police in investigations.

He was in the company of his Burundian girlfriend, Cynthia Munwangari who is also in custody.

According to eyewitnesses, Akena Kenneth Watmon appeared at the Lugogo-based mall to withdraw money from an ATM machine.

As Akena reversed his car in the parking lot, he accidentally knocked another vehicle.

Akena quickly got out apologising and negotiating reparation terms with the owner of the damaged car.

It is said the man whom Akena was apologizing to picked a pistol and shot him.

“The shooter himself picked Akena and drove him to hospital. It’s only until medics said such cases are reported to police first that he turned to say he is only a good Samaritan and doesn’t know who was responsible,” said a family source.

“But the shooter was eventually detained as he called so many of his colleagues.”

Aruu North County MP confirmed that his constituent Akena died this morning at Norvik hospital and called for justice to prevail.

Such cases of shooting are rare in Kampala city.

Other sources say the shooting claimed very wrong victim and the arrested are also wrong victims but we are yet to verify such claims. Watch the space!
